Green Bay’s pressure too much for Iowa State women

AMES — The Iowa State women’s basketball team’s season came to an end on Saturday night. The Cyclones (18-13, 9-9) committed a season-high 30 turnovers in a 71-57 loss to Wisconsin- Green Bay (31-1, 17-1) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Green Bay’s high-pressure defense slowed the Cyclones down on the offensive end. Iowa State trailed 42-23 at halftime and Green Bay never looked back.

The Phoenix had four players score in double-figures. Lydia Bauer led Green Bay with 16 points on four 3-pointers. The Phoenix hit 11 three’s in the game, nine of them coming in the first half. Sarah Eichler also scored 16 points and dished out a team-high five assists.

Iowa State attempted 37 shots in the game, 20 fewer than Green Bay. The Cyclones had five players score at least 10 points, led by Hallie Christofferson who scored a team-high 12 points. Lauren Mansfield and Chelsea Poppens each scored 11 points a piece, Nikki Moody chipped in 10 and Brynn Williamson had 10 points for the Cyclones off the bench.

Iowa State loses two seniors, Mansfield and Chassidy Cole.
