Iowa State Falls at Michigan, 56-49

The following is a press release sent out by Iowa State athletic communications.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – An up-and-down second half cost the Iowa State women’s basketball team as it fell 56-49 to Michigan at the Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor. The loss drops the Cyclones to 4-2 on the year.

Iowa State struggled from the field, shooting just 19-of-56, including 10-of-36 from 3-point range. The Cyclones committed 18 turnovers that led to 21 Michigan Wolverine points. Iowa State, however, did control the glass with a 39-29 rebound edge.

After going into the locker room down 24-22 Iowa State got a fast start to the second half, going on an 8-0 run to give the Cyclones their first lead of the game and a 30-24 advantage. Michigan continued to battle, posting an 8-0 run of its own to retake the lead at 32-30.

Iowa State then went on a 7-0 run to take a 37-32 lead but an 11-0 Michigan run that gave the Wolverines a lead that they did not concede for the rest of the game.

Hallie Christofferson led the Cyclones with 13 point and 10 rebounds and Jessica Schroll, returning to her home state of Michigan, had 12 points. Chelsea Poppens recorded a game-high 11 rebounds along with nine points.

Michigan posted four five-point leads in the first half but the Cyclones were able to continue to reel the Wolverines back in. Michigan looked set to take a 24-19 lead into the locker room but Nikki Moody drained a three with 12 seconds left to cut the deficit to 24-22. Michigan took advantage of 12 Iowa State turnovers by posting 15 points off of the giveaways.

Michigan was led by Courtney Boylan with 17 point and Kate Thompson added 15 for the Wolverines. Jenny Ryan posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Iowa State returns to Hilton Coliseum Wednesday when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes as part of the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST and will be televised on Mediacom.
