Niang picks up additional high-major offers

The competition just picked up for Iowa State inGeorges Niang’s recruitment.

Niang, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound power forward out of The Tilton School in Methuen, Mass., recently added two high-major offers to his growing list.

Along with Iowa State and Iowa, Texas A&M and Providence have now officially offered Niang.

Texas A&M had previously been recruiting Niang for some time. After leaving Fairfield for the  Providence gig, it didn’t take Ed Cooley long to pull the trigger.

“I’m just taking my time,” Niang said. “I don’t have a top five or anything. I feel blessed to be in this position.”

Keep an eye on Miami. Its new head coach Jim Larranaga had previously offered Niang when he was at George Mason. Niang told CycloneFanatic.com that the Hurricanes have jumped into the mix too, along with UNC-Charlotte.

As for Iowa State, the Cyclones are still in good shape.

“My relationship with Fred Hoiberg has gotten even stronger,” Niang said. “I like him a lot.”

In addition to Hoiberg, Niang mentioned Iowa assistant Andrew Francis, Texas A&M assistant Scott Spinelli and Providence head coach Ed Cooley.

“I definitely want to wrap it up sometime before August or September,” Niang said.

Niang unofficially visited Iowa State on March 24.
