Paul Rhoads signed a much-needed defensive tackle recruit to his 2011 recruiting class on Monday.
Quinton Pompey, a 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive tackle out of Bradenton (Fla.) Mantatee officially visited Iowa State over the weekend and faxed Iowa State his National Letter of Intent on Monday morning.
"Quenton possesses the skills to be a difference-maker on the defensive side of the football," said Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads. "I see him making a major impact at a position where we are looking for more depth."
Pompey chose Iowa State over offers from Penn State, Miami (Fla.), Missouri and Louisville. He was also a high school teammate of fellow Cyclone signee Quenton Bundrage.
As a senior at Manatee, Pompey recorded 62 tackles and 11 sacks. As a junior, he racked up 100 tackles and 12 sacks.
