ISU coaches make impact on Bundrage

Ames wasn’t what Brandenton (Fla.) Manatee wide receiver Quenton Brundage (6-foot-2, 180-pounds) expected.

“People always doubt why I would like it because of the cornfields but that has nothing to do with the school,” Brundage said. “It was a really nice place. I liked it a lot.”

Brundage officially visited Iowa State this weekend and no, it wasn’t warm in Ames for the Florida recruit. If it is 80-degrees or 15, climate can’t put a chink in Brundage’s relationship with Iowa State’s coaching staff that is rock solid. That relationship is a top priority for Brundage and it’s one of the reasons that he’s so interested in Iowa State as the calendar nears mid-January.

“Honestly, the coaches are what I really like,” Brundage said. “The players will tell you themselves how honest the coaches are with them. No coach will tell me that I have a reserved starting spot but that the opportunity is open for a chance to play early.”

Specifically, three Cyclone defensive backs stressed that message to Brundage, who spent an awful lot of time with Leonard Johnson, Jeremy Reeves and Jacques Washington.

“Those three are really funny characters but I found out for myself that when they talk football, they take their business seriously,” Brundage said.

In addition to the bond he’s already made with the staff, Brundage said that Iowa State’s football facilities are a notch up compared to what he has seen so far.

“That indoor football facility was nice. I haven’t seen anything like that yet.”

Brundage doesn’t have a timeline on when he might make a commitment right now.

“I am still figuring out which schools I want to visit,” Brundage said. “That’s what I am going to do when I get home, just think everything through.”
