St. Louis running back chooses ISU

By Chris Williams, CycloneFanatic.com Publisher

The St. Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that Iowa State has picked up a running back commitment for the football recruiting class of 2011. His name is Rob Standard, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound prospect out of Chaminade High School. Standard was named the 2009 St. Louis Post Dispatch offensive player of the year.

In three games during his senior season, Standard has rushed for 639 yards and 11 touchdowns. During his prep career at Chaminade, Standard has accounted for 6,083 yards and 82 touchdowns. He’s 1,027 yards away from breaking the St. Louis area record of 7,109. That’s all according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Other facts

– Standard chose the Cyclones over an offer from Nebraska.

Rivals.com ranks Standard as the nation’s 54th best prep running back in the class of 2011. He’s a three-star prospect according to the recruiting service.

– According to Standard’s Rivals profile, he runs a 4.4 40-yard dash.

Impact on ISU’s 2011 class

Standard is now the 13th known commitment in Iowa State’s class of 2011. He is the first running back to join the class. With James White, Jeff Woody, Shontrelle Johnson and Duran Hollis all returning next season, one would think that Standard will be the only running back taken in 2011.
