Marquis Gilstrap wasn’t selected in the 2010 NBA Draft. But he did get a call from an NBA coaching legend shortly after it ended.
Charlotte’s Larry Brown picked up and called Gilstrap around midnight (Georgia time) to offer the former Cyclone a summer league contract. Gilstrap couldn’t be happier.
"That’s actually probably my first choice," Gilstrap told CycloneFanatic.com on Friday morning."He (Brown) said that if they would have had a pick there in the second round that they would have drafted me. He said that this is the same scenario for me, even if I had been drafted by Charlotte. It’s the same opportunity."
Gilstrap just worked out for Charlotte last Thursday. The franchise informed him at that time that they were extremely interested. The best part of this deal for Marquis is that Charlotte is close to his family in Georgia.
"It’s only like four hours. It’s perfect," Gilstrap said.
Gilstrap told CF that he hasn’t taken an in depth look at the Bobcats roster yet but will do so in the coming days. Gilstrap will report to his summer league team on July 1.
