By Chris Moore…aka…CMoore_23 The Iowa State women’s basketball team is now 2-1 after Friday’s 40-point, 78-38 win over Penn.
Here’s what you need to know about the win.
Iowa State hit 13 3-pointers in the game. The best part about this game though was the fact that all of the Cyclones saw action, including Genesis Lightborne and Amanda Zimmerman. Iowa State was lead by Kelsey Bolte and Anna Prins, who both scored 15-points. All of Bolte’s points came from beyond the arc, as she shot 5-for-7 from long range. Iowa State held Penn to 19 points in both halves. Penn only had two players score in double figures, both with 10 points. Iowa State held Penn to 14-for-56 for 25 percent shooting in the game. It doesn’t matter who you are playing. When you hold a team to that low of a shooting percentage, you are more then likely going to win the game.
Player Breakdown:
Starters
Allison Lacey: Lacey had another great game on Friday. She had nine assists, while scoring 11 points and only committing two turnovers. It was just another solid day for the senior.
Whitney Williams: Williams is one of those players who this team really needs to step up this season. She did so against Penn. Williams was 5-of-7 from the field. She knocked down four threes and scored 14 points.
Kelsey Bolte: Bolte scored 15 points, all from 3-point range. She also pulled down six rebounds in the game. It’s been an up and down season for Bolte. Hopefully she keeps up the hot shooting.
Chelsea Poppens: I guess you could say that Poppens had an off game. Despite Penn keying on her, Poppens still managed six points and eight rebounds in the game.
Anna Prins: Prins recorded 15 points and was just one rebound shy of a double-double. Prins also had three blocks and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Bench
Chassidy Cole: From the sounds of things, Cole couldn’t really get into a flow on Friday. She scored two points and had two assists.
Denae Stuckey: Stuckey played a solid game against Penn. She only scored two points but also recorded six assists, four rebounds and a steal. She did all of this in just 13 minutes of playing time.
Amanda Zimmerman: It is so nice to hear that name again. Amanda played 21 minutes on Friday, which is really nice to see considering just under a week ago, nobody really expected her back this early.
Genesis Lighbourne:Lightborne is another player who is nice to see playing again. Genesis has been hit with injuries a lot in her career. Hopefully she has seen the last of them. She only played seven minutes but she will likely continue to get more down the road as she gets back into the swing of things. She scored four points on Friday, while pulling in one rebound.
Iowa State will now play College of Charleston on Saturday at 2 p.m.
