    Right. Just for a sec.

But which player, new or returning, are you excited to see play this new season?

Fennelly has stated (what we have anticipated) that we will use a 3-guard scheme. So having Jadda on the floor seems a given for attracting interest. But I am looking in a different direction to see how Jensen and, really the one I want to see big improvement is, Maddie do. Maddie actually got some good reviews out of high school and top 60 ranking by ESPN. We could use her shot blocking and, if healthy and working hard with the skills coaches, I love to see her break out as a F/C. Johnson is always a player I want to see.

To be clear, top 60 post, not top 60 overall.

I agree on Jensen. I've never seen her play, and she is coming back from a knee that took out her senior season, but the fact that she is 6'3", and there is something about that look in her eyes that makes me think she is going to be a big contributor.

I am anxious to see how this Hallie and four guards game plan works out. We have a strong back court and that should determine just how good this team can be. It will be interesting to see if Hallie can duplicate or improve on her last season's performance. She is the star and leader and should be double and tripled teamed most of the season. I can't wait for November.

One way to get beat the double and triple team is to hit threes. I think four guards are going to be able to do it.

I must have mistaken what Coach Fennelly said. Did he say 4 guard offense?

The four-out-one-in where Hallie would have limited motion down right or left and the guards would be passing and screening like crazy. If that is what we are looking at would that be an effective use of multi-skilled Hallie? We have the shooters this demands, but it also leaves opportunity for drives. I was mistakenly thinking three guards (or parameter players) like Duke runs. But that requires TWO good posts and we don't have that.

So it is a four guard play! The four guards then would be Kidd, Jadda, Nikki and ? Is Brynn's ball handling there? From what I see Johnson may be her equal. The season has yet to start. But, like the volleyball team there seems to be much experimentation to be done and conjecturing from me as a fan.

The Kentucky women have been very successful using a 4 out 1 in offense. They played it two years ago when they play UWGB in Ames. When ran like it should be they were tough to stop.

And I would suspect if we try it - we will have to press all over like they do. Guarding in the half court may be a challenge. Should definitely be interesting!

The line-up we will be playing could harken back to the days of truly having multiple legit threats from beyond the arc (Frese, Taylor, Gahan, Haugen, etc.). We are very tough to guard when anyone on the perimeter can score. Plus it could make it easier to get the ball inside to Hallie, assuming that's where she will be (since she is clearly a BIG 3 point threat herself and hoping Ellis, Jensen, or Baier can help out). Angie Welle often had the paint to herself because the opponents had to stay outside to guard everyone else. When she got double-teamed, it would get kicked out to the open player. Not saying that this is exactly what will happen this year, but it would be nice to see us go back to the days when the offense was putting up 75-80 points per game on average.

I think everyone is hitting on the real upside to this lineup. Scoring, if we can consistently have 2-3 hitting shots outside, should be fun to watch. The biggest liability I see is guarding a true post inside. That is the main intangible I see at this point. How will Maddie evolve? Will Jensen be able to bang? The multiple outside threats will really create matchup problems for our opponents. Add to this the defensive pressure that we will be able to apply with four quick players on the court. Should be fun to watch.

For those in the know (and who have a much better memory than me).......has ISU WBB ever gone with a 4 guard/single post lineup in the past? I'm not talking for just a single game or something, but for what would have constituted a season?

True, Hallie may need some help inside on defense, but she is strong, and with good positioning, should be effective. I imagine that the defense might have a guard help down low if needed -- quick guards can be pesky and distracting to the bigs. Also, at 5-11 and with the strong defensive skills shown last year, Brynn could probably also play some interior defense if needed.

It looks like the 2000-01 team, as listed, was a post and 4 guards.

Welle plus 4 guards started all games (GP and GS are first two columns, minutes played per game is last column):
