Just posted this in the Brackens thread....
I am not ripping just on negative posters because there have been quite a few problems but people who are starting the "we need to fire everybody" threads need a serious reality check.
    1. Rhoads is here, he will NOT be going anywhere for at least the next two seasons and it would take two more seasons like this for him to be canned. He is a solid coach and may be the best who would want to be here long term, so calling for his head isn't helping anyone.
    2. Its been talked into the ground, but if you really believe that injuries and inexperience dont have anything to do with our struggles and this team has minimal talent, I question how much you really know about football. I know play calling is an issue too but there have been sent real flashes of talent from this group.
    3. Back to play calling, Messingham isn't the answer for OC, he has helped us nail some recruits and I would like to bring him back as a position coach if he would accept a demotion but we need someone who can maximize the use of our weapons and put our playmakers in position to use the strengths in their game and be able to use momentum to put teams away when we have the chance. We have been right there in multiple games this year but we HAVE to capitalize when teams give us the chance.

I know a lot of you guys are hurting right now, hell, we are fanatics we ought to be, but I love this team and wouldn't trade it for another. I'm not here to say that this team will get x amount of wins in x years but it WILL be better in the next few years and I feel bad but understand if some posters choose not to reinvest in what CPR is building and miss out on seeing their success. Thanks for taking the time to read, better days are coming... *drop mic*

So Mess is instrumental in our 9th and 10th place ranked recruiting classes in the Big 12? Wow, he really does need to go. Only half :jimlad: on that one, only because he should lose his job. Not sure if he would come back with a demotion, but I don't personally know the guy so I guess you never know.

Points 1 & 2 and the final paragraph are spot on. Rhoads isn't leaving anytime soon, he just needs to find a way to differentiate his teams from those McCarney-esque teams that had some talent, but were doomed by the hands of ineffective coordinators/playcalling.

I've never had the same certainty about this statement - who says that if Rhoads had had, say, a couple of 10-2, 9-3 seasons he wouldn't have accepted a tempting offer from another school?

I agree 100% with point #2. I mean look at Georgia and their rash of injuries, if they can't over come the injury bug with the stud talent they get how is ISU supposed to. Georgia is able to recruit guys who are ready to come in and play immediately and ISU isn't, so when ISU is forced to use offensive lineman that aren't physically ready to play yet you get what happened this season. People will say it is an excuse but it is reality.

Great post OP. Sounds almost exactly like the McD defenders.

Two MORE years like this one before any worries about job security? Are you kidding me?

I hope CPR turns things around. I really do. But after the bowl games and this whole season, I am having trouble

buying into whatever it is he is trying to do.

Two more years? I don't know if I can last two more games. This is crap.

I've never even heard of the idea of accepting 2-3 seasons in a row like this one. That's an amazing tolerance for failure.

Nobody thinks the next two years will be as difficult as this year has proven to be. We need to build on what we have and avoid starting from scratch, again. Fan's have done their job, let Rhoads do his. CPR will make changes that need to be made.

Are fans really going to accept a 3-9 or 4-8 year next year after 1-11 this season?

Hasn't happened, may not happen. Were heavily vested in current management, no choice but to let it play out. Fans drive the system, no sign of quit.

I never said I would accept that, but rather that is the reality of what it would take for JP to fire Rhoads with >6 years and what the payout would cost the school.

I believe a 6-7 win season, a bowl game, and definite evidence that this team is going to get better is what it would take for CPR to regain confidence among the fans. 3-9 or 4-8 would be disappointments but it would buy another year for Rhoads from JP to continue.

I think that the fans would accept 3 or 4 wins next year if, and only if, we win One game this season. Hellsbells this fanbase accepted this kind of football under Jimmy Dean Walden, until nobody would show up at JTS and then and only then did Gene Smith pull the proverbial plug on good ol boy Jimmy D Walden.

JP will never get rid of CPR with 50,000 fans sitting in JTS. I can guarantee you that..

Maybe your pessimism is warranted. Let's hope not. I doubt Rhoads has forgotten everything he learned over the course of his career. If he has what do we do with the numerous years remaining on his contract? Paying two head coaches might be difficult.

This is not a good comparison. Georgia is also playing some superior talent that they could easily struggle against even if they were healthy. The Big 12 doesn't have that type of superior talent this year. BU is probably the only Big 12 team that could play with an injured Georgia team right now. That's what's frustrating for me. TCU is bad, UT is playing better but they're not great, TT is who we thought they were, OSU has had offensive and defensive issues, WVU has used both QB's trying to find consistency and can't play defense, KSU is below average, KU simply sucks, and OU is not good. The injuries are bad and I don't wish that on any kid or program. So, let's call it what it is.

We will agree to disagree. Georgia was picked by many to win the SEC East, some to win the SEC and even some others to play for the NC.

But my point is if a perenial power like Georgia who reutinely pulls in top talent that is ready to play as freshman has issues overcoming injuries how can you expect ISU who normally doesn't even sniff that type of talent to overcome it. We are playing guys who NEED to be in our weight room for a couple years before they are physically ready but are being forced to play them now.

I struggle to see 4 wins next season. I think we could get beat by a 1AA opponent again.

Good post, and a voice of reason among the childish rants on here.
