From SB Nation, ISU is No. 21.

The Top 100 Programs in Division I Women's College Basketball: #11-25 - Swish Appeal

    21. Iowa State: If Bill Fennelly isn't the best coach in the Big Twelve, he's definitely the best Twitterer. (@ISUCoachFen, but don't tell him I put the Cyclones at #21. Hell hath no fury like a Twitterer scorned.) When you get to the level of what he's done in college basketball, it becomes easier to list what he hasn't done. His programs have averaged 23 wins a year, and include five NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances and two Elite Eight appearances. The most recent Sweet Sixteen appearance was the one last year where the season ended with a 74-36 loss to Connecticut.

Behind Tennessee and Connecticut, the next team in attendance is...Iowa State, averaging over 9,000 fans per home game. The Cyclones lost PG Alison Lacey this year to graduation, as well as four other seniors. It's time for the group of Cylone freshmen - Chelsea Poppens, Anna Prins, Jessica Schroll and Amanda Zimmerman - to step up as Iowa State has taken on a killer schedule for 2010-11.

There's plenty of opportunity to disagree with placement on that list. Just on the 11-25 - I question Middle Tennessee State being as high as 15 or Nebraska as high as 22 or Georgia as low as 24. "Programs" are evaluated over a period of years.

I stopped taking this serious when I saw Nebraska at #22. One good year doesn't make a basketball program.

    I took the RPIs for the last 10 seasons and made a weighted average of them: (10*2010 + 9*2009 + 8*2008 + ... + 1* 2001)/55.

Here are the rankings of the schools who have been Div I all 10 of those seasons:

other than mid Tn being a little high, and Florida St., ????, and maybe Nebby being 22, I think its fairly well done. I'd say ISU is in the top 20 myself, but I am biased.

I started around 11:30 thinking it'd take half an hour. The problem is CollegeRPI.com isn't always consistent about their team naming, so I had to fix a bunch of team names manually, and that added a bunch of time.

Yes, Georgia at 24 is way too low. Purdue seems low also.

I realize I wasn't clear with this: I took the RPI rankings, not the actual RPIs. That's why a lower number is best.
