I saw Atlantis in person back in '89 or so. This video does not give the speed of the takeoff justice. It goes up incredibly fast.
My father was lucky enough to catch a space shuttle launch from a commercial flight quite a few years ago.
I thought it was that at first but I think it's a "Canadian accent"...
We were lucky enough to be in Florida for a shuttle launch, if anyone gets a chance I would highly recommend it. We were 5 miles away with mostly water between us and the launch pad. What was amazing was how the water started shaking before you heard anything. Plus every bird in the area took off at the same time. It was kind of surreal.
You know, you can play videos without the audio. :smile:
I can remember when the Challenger exploded. I just can't watch a shuttle take off without thinking of that tragedy.
