I'm posting this since I know there are more than a few Cubs fans like myself that frequent CF. Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg will be the new Manager of the Peoria Chiefs, a Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. I'm glad that Ryne is with the Cubs in a more active role after spending some time as spring training instructor and a short stint as a roving minor league hitting instructor. I'm also glad that he is once again active in baseball because my wife allowed me to name our son after him and now I can take my son to get his autograph when Peoria plays the Wisconsin Rattlers next summer.

I know Ryno wanted the AAA job here in Des Moines which I'm sort of glad he didn't get. For someone with no managerial expirience I think Peoria is a good place for him to start. While he would have sold tickets in Des Moines, it's too important of a job to be handing over to someone like him right now. I think the I-Cubs should be stacked with pitching this coming season as most of those rookies that finished the season in Chicago minus Rich Hill will likely start the year in AAA where they'll finally get the instruction they really needed last season before being called up.

I think marshall has a chance to stay at the major level. the others I do agree will be down in AAA.

I agree Travman. Triple A would have been too high of a start for Ryne. Peoria should be a great situation for him. Now with Ryne and Jody Davis managing in the minors, all I want is Mark Grace in the TV booth and Andre Dawson to join Hendry's staff then four of my favorite Cubs while growing up would be back in the Cub Family. And of course we'd have to find a spot for Vance Law, my favorite Cubs third baseman from the 80's.

Did you know andrew dawson is coming to town. I-cubs are having some family fest thing at Hyvee Hall. its cost a bit much for the tickets though.

If they sign Ted Lilly I see Marshall starting at AAA this year. Having 3 lefties in the rotation doesn't make sense and they already have Cotts and Eyre in the bullpen for lefties. I think with some AAA starts though Marshall could prove valuable later in the season or as trade bait. I think if any of last year's rookies makes the big league roster is Marmol if he doesn't get traded. Marmol can be long relief or a spot starter and he's a converted catcher so he's a decent hitter for a pitcher. He's being mentioned in the Jason Jennings trade rumors though so if that deal happens he'll probably be part of it. Guzman I think may never be the prospect he once was thought as considering he is as old as Zambrano and has not stayed healthy or made much of an impact when he has been. Probably should have been traded 2 years ago when he still had some value as a hot prospect. Mateo, Ryu, and O'Malley will all probably start at AAA as well. Add that to Marshall and Iowa has a nice rotation that can hopefully develop and fill holes when there is an injury or use in a trade to fill another hole.

I agree. For once I can say there is some promise in the farm system. But for some reason we cant put it all together.

Guzman is a disappointment, but look how long it took hill to catch on. Maybe with more opportunities, Guzman will prosper. I like O'Malleys stuff last year, and Mateo, but not Ryu. I would hate to lose Marmol for the very reason you above. He is a valuable hitter as well as pitcher.

    We will see what happens.

Since this has become an official-unofficial cubs thread I thought I would post this.

It looks like Lilly is set on two teams. Link

Cubs signed Ted Lilly last night. Four years $40mil all while Jim Hendry was in the hospital! Talk about job dedication, not sure if I have ever heard of a GM working out a deal while in a hospital bed.

I can live with losing Marmol for Jennings if they can sign Jennings to an extension as part of the trade. Jennings has done very will considering he has to pitch half his games at Coors field which has been a pitching graveyard for years. He's proven and while Marmol has shown flashes I would take a proven player over an unknown commodity that still has some value. Especially considering the Cubs track record with their own pitchers lately.
