It's possible a 5 seed ISU Women's team could be pitted against a 12 seeded Hawkeye Women's team in Carver Hawkeye...that would ensure that the 2nd round game would be well attended...regardless of the winner. Isn't that the attempt by the selection committee in these Women's games...put people in the seats. ...thoughts?

So the 12 seed would be rewarded with a home game, while the 5 seed would be forced to play on their opponent's home court?

Sure. Why not? Seeding for MBB games seems to lack logic at times (forcing a #2 seed to play an Elite 8 game in their opponent's backyard anyone?), and WBB programs are even less beholden to logic than their male counterparts.

Like the man says: "When I try to predict the actions of Women's Basketball administrators, I think about Men's Basketball administrators.....and then take away Reason and Accountability."

The sites for this years opening round games are determined a year earlier. Hilton has benefited from this in previous years and deservedly so. Iowa almost collapsed to the point where the committee couldn't justify putting them into the tournament...but I think they recovered enough to get in this year. Albeit as a 12 seed...but there sits ISU...a potential 5th seed. I could see it happen.

No. I don't disagree with you. Plus you've got to figure in the "ISU has a male coach vs. Iowa has a female coach" factor would help Iowa get a little "tweak" in their seeding to get the home game. If women's programs as a whole are willing to forego increased attendance and the revenue boost that comes from that increase by having their tournament a week ahead of the men's tournament, I wouldn't put anything past them.

The big difference between Iowa City & Ames? If positions were reversed & ISU was the lower seeded team that was asked to play their games at a remote location while their home court was hosting other teams, I would still expect Hilton to damn near sell-out.

Not sure if any of you have seen the home crowds at Carver, but my guess is, with our fan base, we may outnumber Hawk fans even if its in Iowa City. Granted they'll love the rivalry, but we also get an NCAA game right here in Iowa. Would love to see it...Hilton East. Take me down on home floor angle revenge for earlier loss to them where we played terrible.

Weren't we a 10 or 11 seed last year and got to play a 6 or 7 seed at Hilton or Des Moines?

Iowa may have the home floor but WE would have more fans THERE!

Not really. The committee will avoid regular-season rematches in the first two rounds. It's in the principles/procedures.

Last year we were a 10 and got to play the 7-10 game against UW-Green Bay at Hilton. We still lost.

You honestly lost me here. Does a single person that is interested in WBB care? If it was a men's game you'd have yourself an interesting scenario.

Can a mod please post this under the women's basketball thread? There seems to be enough confusion about which teams are doing what today. No need to make things more muddled! Thanks in advance...
