Lou Piniella is retiring after today's game to spend time with his ailing mother. Former I-Cub manager Mike Quade takes over.

He should have stepped down when he announced his retirement earlier this season. Most people could tell he lost his fire sometime last season and he's just been going through the motions ever since.

Finally hes gone maybe they can get the cubs back on track instead of just increasing player salaries.

Time to rebuild over the next fifty years.

Per Hendry, Quade is a candidate for the permanent position and Trammel is not.

Anybody who was interested in anything other than a paycheck would turn em down. A truly pathetic franchise.

Nothing but respect for Lou. Man almost got the job done.

Great career, great work from him. I hope things work out for his mother, and I'm really glad he can be there for her.

Apparently they need a new gm too, then?
