Yeah, the Yankees are so effed this year. I know they've been decimated by injuries, but I can't help but laugh either. I'm amazed they're still above .500 with their roster.

It makes me wish George Steinbrenner were still around. Joe Girardi might be out anyways, but there's absolutely no way George wouldn't can him after missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

The Yankees could never win a game again, and I would be perfectly content

There isn't a trade which can save the Yankees. Going from:

CC Sabathia (though he's not the old CC)
Masahiro Tanaka
Ivan Nova
Michael Pineda
Hiroki Kuroda

which is a solid rotation to

Hiroki Kuroda
Brandon McCarthy
Chase Whitley
Chris Capuano
Shane Greene

Leaves you dead in the water. Then throw in overspending on hurt guys in the offseason (see: Beltran, Carlos) or just flat out broken players (see: Teixiera, Mark) and you're dead in the water.

The only bright spot of the starters is Brett Gardner.

I can't figure the Mariners out. They just gave up a pretty decent prospect (Nick Franklin) to get Austin Jackson for a year and a half when they're only a few games above .500 with arguably the two best teams in baseball above them in the division.

Franklin has completely bombed when he's gotten called up before. He's really looking like a quadruple A player. Good in the minors, can't cut it in the majors.

Also, the Rays got completely bent over in this trade.
Isn't price just essentially a rental for the rest of the year? I don't think the Rays were going to be able to resign him anyway.

Nope. He hits FA after 2015. And since the Tigers probably won't be able to bring back Scherzer, they will have a ton of money to throw at him.

Been a while since I posted a summary...

*Baltimore continues to hold a 7 game lead on the Yanks in the AL East with a 73-54 record. Toronto is 8 games back.

*Kansas City is 3 up on Detroit in the AL Central and 16 games over .500 on the season (72-56).

*Oakland and Anaheim/Los Angeles/California/location du jour are tied in the AL West with MLB-best 76-52 records. Seattle is 6 games back.

*As of today, both AL wild card teams would come from the WEST, with Detroit out of the picture, just one game back.

*Oakland has the highest run differential in MLB with +165. Seattle is second with +104.

*Most AL home wins: Oakland (43). Most AL road wins: Baltimore and Kansas City (39).

*Most AL runs scored: Oakland (615). Fewest AL runs scored: NYY (499).

*Fewest AL runs allowed: Seattle (407). Most AL runs allowed: Texas (649).

*Washington is 7 games up on Atlanta in the NL East after their 10 game win streak. Washington also has the best NL record and third best overall at 74-54.

*Milwaukee has a slim .5 game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central with a 71-58 record.

*Los Angeles is up 4.5 games over San Francisco in the NL West with a 74-57 record.

*St. Louis and San Francisco are the current two NL wild card teams. Atlanta is 1 game back, with Pittsburgh 1.5 behind.

*Washington has the largest NL run differential with +99. The Dodgers are second with +57.

*Most NL home wins: Washington (42). Most NL road wins: Los Angeles (40).

*Most NL runs scored: Colorado (600). Fewest NL runs scored: San Diego (421).

With only two weeks left in the regular season, things are really sorting themselves out, as far as post-season plans go.

Baltimore, Washington, and the Angels all have a 10 game lead or larger in their divisions. Detroit is up 3 on KC, St. Louis is up 3.5 on Pittsburgh, and the Dodgers are up 3 on San Francisco.

Oakland managed to take their series with Seattle, keeping the A's (83-66) ahead of KC for the top AL WC slot by 1.5 games. KC is up 1 game on Seattle for the second.

San Francisco (82-67) has a 3 game lead over Pittsburgh for the top NL WC slot, which leads Milwaukee by 1.5 games for the second.

So, the current top AL teams are:
LA Angels (93-56)
Baltimore (88-60)
Detroit (83-66)
Oakland (83-66) wc
Kansas City (81-67) wc

The current top NL teams are:
Washington (85-63)
LA Dodgers (85-64)
St. Louis (83-67)
San Francisco (82-67) wc
Pittsburgh (79-70) wc
