I got diagnosed with mono today, after 3 days of complete and utter torture. I couldn't eat due to the pain in my throat, had a fever and a headache. Lost 10 pounds, and then they tell me I'm out for track because my spleen "might explode" or some bull and this **** won't be gone for 3-4 weeks.

Who else has had this monster?

I had it. I was ran down and had sore throats for months before my doc sent me to a specilist and after only a min with him he said I had mono and have had it for sometime. I went to the hostipal and got an IV spent the night and the next day I as a different person, recoved quick after that. Drink lost of water.

I got it about 6-8 weeks after I got home from deployment and it sucked something fierce. It was kind enough to stay with me for about 10 weeks. Like someone else said, drink lots of water. I also took a daily vitamin. Do whatever you can to boost your immune system.

I thought I had mono once for an entire year. Turns out I was just really bored.

Dude, do NOT screw with that. I had mono last June. My doctor is normally pretty upbeat and cheerful, she likes to crack jokes. She warned me three times in about ten minutes, though. She told me that if my spleen ruptured, I had about 40-50 minutes to get to the emergency room or I'd be dead. Ruptured spleens are reeeeeally bad news, and it doesn't take much to do it. Moderate physical work will do it, such as track practice. God forbid you run into somebody or get hit with an object.

Good luck getting over it, though. It's pretty rough, I won't lie. If you can't eat, make sure you're drinking something with electrolytes in it (like G2 or SmartWater), not just regular water.

Just go get an IV. It will make you feel so much better and it will get fluids back in your system.

When I graduated from High School I weighed 185 lbs. My first semester in college I was feeling like crap but ignored it until I finally decided I better go to the doctor. He told me I had mono but was on the back stages of it. I wish I would have gone much earlier and rested and took care of myself like you really need to. But since I waited, I went home for Christmas break weighing 149 lbs (I'm 6'3). My mom freaked and took me right away to the doctor. As it turns out, when my immune system was down my pancreas quit working and, as a result, I have been type 1 diabetic ever since. I take care of myself and it's really no big deal to me anymore, but had I gone to the doctor and followed their advice, I might not have it.

So long story short, follow what they tell you and take care of yourself so something like what happened to me don't happen to you.....

My spleen ruptured back in 2007. I was a passenger in a car with a drunk driver(drunk myself) and we got into a pretty bad accident. What happened was he had an old computer monitor in the back of his Jeep and when we wrecked, it came up and hit me hard in the side. It tore it up pretty bad. If no one would have saw us wreck, no doubt I would be dead because my internal bleeding was pretty bad.

That sucks! Sorry to hear that

I have had the last 5 days of hell! Haven't slept in 3 nights. I had a severe severe pain in an area that I won't mention! Doctor didn't know what it was and gave me some hydrocodone to help with the pain. Pain was so severe that it didn't help.

Today he sent me to a specialist who found out I had an absess and he proceeded to cut me open and let it drain. Hurt like a mother. Does feel better now though and I hope to get some sleep tonight!

I had it 2 years ago, and honestly I think I went through the worst of it before I was even diagnosed. Mostly I was just more tired than normal, but had some awful sore throats. That was the worst part for me. What really sucked is that I had it while on spring break, snowboarding in Wyoming, where I was riding all day and partying hard at night, all the while clueless to the fact that I had it. Once I got diagnosed, I took it easy for a 2 weeks, and I was fine. I must've had a weak strain, too.

This is why I will never play beer pong. Not saying this is how you got it, but it's a way I know several people of whom gotten it.

I had it while in college, back in 85 or so. My worst symptoms were that I slept all the time. I would come home from class, sit down and instantly fall asleep and couldn't wake up for hours. It lasts for a long time. Fortunately, mine must have been pretty mild based upon what others have said. Take care of yourself.

I remember being down for about 2 weeks with it. Had a sore throat. Was tired a lot and that probably lasted a month.

Good thing I was only 22 at the time. My bounce back time was pretty quick back then.
