Just curious why Mizzu thinks the Big 10 would want them so badly? Really they aren't that much different than ISU in terms of athletic budget or fan support and nobody has said anything about ISU getting a serious look.

If I was the Big 10, I'd be thinking there are a lot bigger fish to catch that would make them more money?

Forget this $$ **** that the Big Televen wants. They should just worry about getting one team in to make at least the 12 team league they desire.

I really don't see anyone in the B12 leaving for the Big Televen. Matter of principal....I hope.

    Good point.

Their academics isn't anything to write home about either.

The Big 10 is just trying to get some positive exposure for FREE, by throwing all these names around. They know they can't beat the Big 12 on the Field, but they do have more TV sets and a bigger Alumni base.

This argument always makes me question. Do people in St. Louis and KC really even care about Mizzou? Their Basketball team is coming off an Elite 8 appearance and they cant even fill their small basketball arena and their football team is being looked over by the Insight Bowl for ISU. I'm not so sure people in St Louis and KC really care much about Mizzou...

I'd have to disagree. I think TV sets are the biggest motivator. Mizzou is the only BCS school in a fairly populous state, and contains two large TV markets. Then add the fact that they have a rivalry w/a Big 10 school and you have it made. They add more than any other school mentioned, save Texas. Pitt doesn't make sense because they have those TV sets, Syracuse is irrelevant, Rutgers is a distance 3rd fiddle to the NYC pro teams, and Nebraska doesn't have anywhere near enough TV sets.

Texas, Notre Dame, Rutger all have more to offer in bigger states. Any of the Big East or ACC teams offer more TV sets to trump the state of Missouri.

There are more POTENTIAL tv sets, but I would bet more people in Missouri are watching college football than in New Jersey. Also, with the ACC, look at how many of the states are getting split with viewers? Virginia has two BCS teams. North Carolina has 4, and ECU is a solid Non-AQ program. Mizzou has a monopoly.

Notre Dame is the wild card. If Notre Dame would just join the Big 10, I guarantee it would put an end to all of this wild realignment talk. I'd really love to see the NCAA put a conference requirement on it's programs, and cap the conference size at 12 for football. I personally really like the way CFB is laid out right now, and would like to see that stay.

Big 11 is all about the top 50 TV markets. Alot of advertising decisions is based on potential for tv viewers vs. actual viewers.

Half their games were not on TV last year? The viewship is not any better than ISU. Bad argument. They keep saying KC and St Louis, does anyone know that Mizzou exists in these two markets? STL is a baseball town for sure.

Which of these would be more attractive to the Big 10?

    1. A second team from the smallest state in the conference.

    2. The only BCS team in a highly populated state with 2 major media outlets.

ISU is very different from Mizzou when talking Big 10 expansion.

Absolutely. ISU has no shot at Big 10 membership, unless it's a massive expansion.

This also shows, somewhat, why I don't think Pitt is a legit candidate. Granted, PA isn't the smallest state in the conference, but I think the Big 10 "has" the majority of those sets. Pitt doesn't really add anything over Missouri.

The key is, can they force the BTN onto basic cable in St. L and KC? There's going to be a lot of people b%tching when those games aren't on and the BTN won't cave to a sports tier. KC probably has a bunch of displaced hoks b%tching now, but they are easy to ignore. Mizzou fans being home state aren't as easy. KC is sitting at around 2M and StL closer to 3M people. Get the BTN into those metros at even a 30% clip and that's $18,000,000 a year plus the added revenue from a conference championship game plus whatever else they can negotiate from ABC/ESPN.

The only thing with Mizzou going to the Big 11, is if they "add" sooo many viewers, why did half their games last year go unbroadcasted by the Big 12?? People in KC and STL are going to start watching them if they join the Big 10? Im not sure about the viewship arguement cause I am sure that even as dumb as the Big 12 is, they would still make sure that every game is broadcasted if they added to the viewship of the Big 12.

I really don't understand this talk of Missouri going. Then arguments that they have this "rivalry" with Illinois. They are dropping the FB and Basketball games with the Illini that they have been playing for bragging rights after the '10 season. None of these schools care about each other. Missouri is not going to leave the B12.....and playing KU...etc.

Why could Mizzou not join the B10 and still maintain their rivalry with KU?

It would be absolutely stupid for Mizzou to no join, IMO. Same goes for everyone in the North, but Mizzou and Nebby are the most likely to get an invite extended.
