With Kstate's loss last night I was looking at their 2013 schedule and couldn't help but notice they have 8 home games and only 4 away games scheduled this year! Yes EIGHT home games!! How do they get away with this and the NCAA allow? So I did some research and found they very rarely schedule 6 away games a year. I'm glad they got beat at home !!!!

    2008: 7 home 5 away
    2009: 6 home 6 away*
    2010: 7 home 5 away* (Pinstripe Bowl)
    2011: 7 home 5 away (Cotton Bowl)
    2012: 7 home 5 away (Fiesta Bowl)
    2013: 8 home 4 away

*Home/Away game played at Arrowhead against ISU

Comparing ISU's we mostly have 6/6 or 7/5

    2008: 6 home 6 away
    2009: 7 home 5 away* (Insight Bowl)
    2010: 7 home 5 away*
    2011: 6 home 6 away (Pinstripe Bowl)
    2012: 7 home 5 away (Liberty Bowl)
    2013: 6 home 6 away

*Home/Away game played at Arrowhead against KSU

I know Bill Snyder has always said home games do so much for local economy he wants them and probably a lot is they basically always play 4 non-con at home.

The NCAA has no say in the max number of home games. ISU had 8 home games in an 11-game season once.

K-State doesn't have to worry about an in-state non-conference game gumming up their home schedule plans.

Manhattan is such a nice place they are basically doing everybody a favor by scheduling so many games there.

We could do that too if we only played FCS teams for our non-con schedule. Every other year we'd get lucky with 5 home games and 4 road games in the Big 12. It was said but having @Iowa every other year and the FBS-level teams we have home-and-homes with really mucks this up. If you schedule teams that can't have home-and-homes (due to stadium size) then you are guaranteed 8 homes games every other year.

This is why I had no sympathy for Snyder last night. The announcers were making a big deal over the fact that this was Snyder's first opening game loss in a very long time. When you have the easiest non conference schedule in the nation year after year, you should win your opener all the time.

What year did we have 8 home games?

Kansas State actually holds the NCAA record for most games in a year, with 15. Can't find the link but i'll get it eventually.

Think that was in 2000. They were in a "preseason" game, 12 regular games, Big 12 championship, and then bowl game. A couple years after that the NCAA banned the opening games (had it been a year or 2 earlier the entire Seneca was in debate wouldn't have happened)

Looks like in the 60's when there was only a ten game schedule it was pretty normal to have 4 home games. That would suck.

It was basically mentioned above, but what stinks for us is our in-state rivalry game is not a conference game. KU and KST play in conference so they can schedule 3 home non-conference games. With a 9 game conference schedule (max 5 home games) and a max of only 2 non-conference games at home we can only ever get to 7 home games. Iowa game is home when we are on the 4 home/5 away conference schedule.

Clearly, they're going to need that much home field advantage to get bowl eligible.
