Beats Hanke from Oregon State. That's 2 former Iowa State wrestlers out of 7 on the World team
Reader was in the mix too, ousted by Cael. There was a photo of Reader over Cael's shoulder in an Eastern newspaper today.
The new FB facility, as I understand it, will open up space for a dedicated wrestling facility in the Olsen Bldg.
It's great to have Reader, Varner, Sanderson and the Paulsons competing for spots in World tournaments.
It's great that a dedicated wrestling facility is in the near future.
It seems that the added FB broadcast TV contracts from the 10 team Big 12 Conference is being put to use for football and the wrestling team gains too. We need to win the NCAA championship.
ISU has the history of individual championships, 65. We need add the 9th team championship. Putting money into wrestling is putting money to good use.
I bet that was wierd for Reader and Sanderson. Didn't realize they were that close in weight. Thought Cael was much bigger. Closer to Varner
Cael vs Varner would be a match worth seeing. I'd guess they went at it a few times in the wrestling room.
they're both dead to me......
What's your problem with Varner? Were back to back NCAA titles not good enough for you?
Cael was, until he decided it would be easier to go at 84KG than 96KG.
In an interview he said that Varner was like a brother to him and he didn't want to have to wrestle him for a team spot.
Varner won the NCAA championship on national TV. That was fun to watch. He was amazing. He is a beast on the mat.
Z won too. Back to back champions for ISU that evening. I doubt if many schools can claim that honor.
Reader was amazing this year. He's a beast. With more training at the international level, he'll do ISU proud.
I'm so happy that wrestling gets a bigger and better training site.
I didn't realize Varner was wrestling for the PSU Club. Not sure how I feel about that, but not surprising with his history with Cael. Glad he was a Cyclone and won titles.
Varner earned a $45,000/year salary to be on the PSU payroll. I wasn't told his exact tile or position of responsibility. He's training to wrestle ojn the international circuit. He's training in College Station with PSU wrestlers and that's a heck of a recruiting tool.
This is probably an example of PSU having more money than many wrestling schools.
