Like the schedule says Friday Dec 10th is in Ames but the game scheduled for Dec 11th in Cedar Rapids has been moved to Bucs Arena in Des Moines. That's a great place to watch an in state rivalry.

    GO CLONES!!!!!

    Hockey?! As in ice hockey?!

I just remember going to the Coralville mall to watch a movie a few years ago, and being surprised to see an Iowa hockey team (really don't know which squad) playing a Minnesota hockey team (again, don't know which squad...not the better one). Being from Minnesota and having watched the Gophers at Mariucci, I got a chuckle out of seeing a game being played at an ice rink in a mall. But, you play in the facilities you have, I suppose.

I really know next to nothing about college hockey. I just know that unlike a lot of sports, you have crazy conferences that aren't really like 'standard' conferences you're used to with the Big Ten, Big 12, etc. What level does ISU play at?

ISU plays in the Division I of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) The Division they play in is the CSCHL (Central States Collegiate Hockey League).

The other teams in this division are Indiana University, Lindenwood University, Kent State, Ohio University, Robert Morris University and Illinois.

Last year they finished as the #2 team in the country. Here is a link that explains what the ACHA is.

The proper name for the hockey team is the ISU Mens Ice Hockey Club as they play at the non-varsity club level and are funded through ISU's Government of the Student Body, plus a number of large sponsors along with private donations. The Cyclone Hockey team plays in the ACHA Division 1 which is the highest level of the club programs in which there are over 400 now in three divisions. BTW, the U of Iowa hockey club plays in ACHA Division 2, one lower than ISU.

By comparison, the U of Minnesota hockey team plays at the varsity level and governed by the NCAA, and they play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The team from Minn. the U of I was playing was the U of M's Division 2 ACHA club, so the U of M fields both a varsity team and a club team. No big surprise.

ISU also fields an ACHA Division 3 hockey club. Here's a link to the ACHA website:Plus the link to the CSCHL:Last, but not least, the Cyclone Hockey website:

So how is this "good news"? Now when Iowa loses both games, Hawk fans will say that they never had a "home ice" advantage.

Pretty pumped about this. If ISU ever had D1 hockey, I'd be a season ticket holder.
