Bryce Braaksma (football) and Chrissy Derouin (tennis) received Big 12 postgrad scholarships for academic achievement. The article says they have to have at least a 3.5 GPA and exhausted their athletic eligibility, something both of these Cyclones have accomplished.

Braaksma plans to attend med school in 2009 and Derouin is starting at Washington University in St Louis this fall.

A 3.5 as a regular college student is usually pretty tough to maintain, I can't imagine how hard these two worked to balance their sports and schoolwork. Sadly, not too many of our student athletes (especially football it seems) manage to stay above 3.0, and 3.5 is outstanding.

Bryce is a hell of a guy. I took a Kaplan MCAT prep course with him a couple of summers ago. That's fantastic news. Couldn't be happier for him.
