What are the details with the recruiting quiet period over the Christmas break? It seems like it helps the stong programs remain strong. While they're in Florida preparing for the bowls and away from their offices, the wanna be programs can't go after recruits.

Yes, but if we were in a bowl game would you want somebody out trying to steal our recruits ?

The thing I hate most about the bowl season, is that if you do not make a bowl you lose all of that practice time that benefits the bowl teams.

Typically in most industries, the players on top control the committees, etc. I assume this is also true in NCAAF.

The quiet period does keep the strong teams strong, but doesn't the whole college recruiting system do that? The only way to really mix it up would be to have a college draft, and that wouldn't be a very realistic system. You can't really say "son, even though you've wanted to go here for football your whole life and we want you to play for us because you're the best player in the nation, you have to go to play for university x because they're the worst team in the nation and so get first draft pick."

What's the next thing you're going to tell us? Division 1 athletics is all about money? The tooth fairy isn't real?

    Back away from the cliff...

Drink the Kool-aid. It is about winning and money for the AD and the coaches, but for the fans, boosters, and hopefully the players it is about something more.

I don't get why other teams cant practice until the bowl season is over.

perhaps you missed his sarcasm. his point was you couldn't have a draft but that would be the only way to even things out.

I agree. That is one change that I would like to see. I believe that bowl teams are restricted to so many practices. I don't understand why teams that are not going to bowls can't have these same number of practices if they want.

Agreed...It would give PR a chance to get to know the players and see what they're capable of.

It's a reward for making a bowl game. I feel that teams should be able to practice until the bowl pairings are announced regardless if the are eligable or not. Then after the pairings you are done till spring if you don't make a bowl. I'd like to see if you have a new head coach you get 3 extra practices also in the spring
