Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban creates company to challenge BCS system - ESPN Dallas

Not sure how this will fly, but interesting nonetheless. The way I'm reading it, ISU wouldn't really have a shot at the money however. Looks like it's invite only and we're not high enough up the food chain to get a shot at the bucks. The rich would just continue to get richer.

Once again, winning fixes everything. Why should we expect to get an invite when we can't even average 7 wins per season?

Get our program to the level that Iowa is and perhaps we'll see an invite.

It would take an awful long time for us to get invites in this system even if we had a few good years. Can you imagine how long it would take us to get into a top 15 moving average?

The BCS isn't perfect, but Cuban is such a tool.

How would this work with the whole NCAA non-profit status?
That said, how do they get away with it in the current system?

If by tool you mean genius, you're correct.

Other people in his position sit in the background and say what's politically correct. Like him or not at least he doesn't give a **** what any of us think of him.

There's no way that conferences would go for this if it is only available for certain teams. If this money were to go to the conferences and the winner automatically goes (similar to BCS with playoffs), then it may work. Otherwise, you might as well just dissolve the conferences and go independent or superconferences.

IMO- A playoff system would benefit roughy 30 of the historicaly top programs. Everyone else will be relegated to the "rest of the teams" status.

I still contend the best thing for ISU it to get the Big XII back to 12 teams with divisions and a championship game. The past 10 years there were few easier routes to a BCS bowl than the Big XII North.

The BCS is good for Iowa State. It amazes me how many ISU fans want it gone. We'd be even less relevant without it.

The money doesn't go to the NCAA, it goes to the schools and conferences. It's been shown that due to bowl-related expenses the schools don't "make" much if any money off of it either. The schools make money from merchandise sales and ticket sales the following year.

Changing to a playoff format will not magically reduce the travel expenses for teams that make it in. In fact it could be much worse financially to go far in the playoffs if they have to play 2-4 road games (or 1-3 road games and a neutral site game that still requires significant travel).

TV money for March Madness does go the NCAA. I'm not sure where else they make their money - how much licensing do they get for things? I'm sure there are probably some kind of member fees or something.
