Just heard the news about Herman and it got me to wondering.

What is the better job for someone looking to move up the coaching ranks? As a coordinator for a program like ISU, or as a position coach for a bigger name, higher profile program like OSU?

Ohio State can provide more exposure, but the OC at ISU has more control over more things and gains more experience as such. OSU has a better chance of more success, but how much credit does the QB coach get for that?

Honestly, probably about the same. The big difference here is that he's going to Urban Meyer and tOSU that could very well win a National Championship within the next few years. Not saying he will, but it's possible. Can't blame him for taking it, it's a better job and will help his career out immensely in the long run.

Good decision for Herman. Will be similar to the Arkansas offense over the past few years with Petrino calling the plays and McGee as the QB coach. Studying under Petrino opened the door for McGee to prepare and get the UAB job last week.

With all the young, up and coming skill players at Iowa State I'm really surprised. I believe actually calling the plays makes the OC at a mid tier BCS team way more impressive on the resume.

Funny, I've had two separate people tell me all coaches were told their jobs were safe this offseason after the Kansas State game (one person who works directly with the program and a higher up in the athletics department).

I have a hard time believing we wouldn't welcome him back with open arms. I'm guessing he saw dollar signs.

Anyone that believes this is good news is out of their mind. Continuity is a big key to success. I'm certainly not happy about this news.
