Iowa State was not that far from a strong first season. No, I haven't been drinking.

Kent State: Meyer interception at 8 yard line turned game
Northern Iowa: Punt fumbled gave momentum to NI
Toledo: ISU had game won, total meltdown
Nebraska: Interception stopping a scoring drive for a 93 yard TD turned the game
    Four very possible wins there.
    Add wins over:
    Iowa
    CU
    K State

    Solid losses to:
    Texas Tech
    Mizzou
    Texas
    KU

It would have been possible to have seven wins..(I know we could have also lost to Iowa and CU for a one win season)

Actually, ISU played very well at Missouri, we lost by 14, Meyers fumble for a MU TD was bad. I'm not saying we would have won, but ISU played very well that day and never gave up.

I agree, ISU could have easily won 5 or 6 games.

I'd contend we lost the UNI game on our opening drive, when Meyer threw an interception in the end zone after we had a very strong drive.

I knew we were in serious trouble when that pass was picked off.

Oklahoma? 17-7 was much better than the Texas thrashing

And the coulda-shoulda-woulda could easily go the other way for the Iowa and CU games.

that last quote said it perfectly. we could have had 7 wins in Gene Chizik's first year...which woulda been nuts! but we also could have had 1 win too just like KF's first year if i am not mistaken. I hope we make some overall improvements and another year under a young up and coming, inspiring coach with guys getting used to his system(s) and combined with a less murderous schedule we should definitely be in the + column for wins compared to last year. Just need to avoid the toledo-esque meltdowns of old.

Never know, it could matter to her. Sounds like the makings of a good time.

I still don't know how we lost Toledo. I watched on Clonezone and couldn't sleep that night.

In perfect and typical ISU fashion, we found a way to lose.

It's pretty simple really. At the beginning of the season we were still learning and lost the games that could go either way, other than the Iowa game. By the end of the season, we were winning the ones that could go either way, while also being competitive against some pretty good teams. The Texas Tech and Kansas games were just really bad match-ups for us, and the Texas game was the kind of disaster that often happens in a difficult season.

I was there watching in person with another member of this site (haven't seen him on in awhile). When we took the 11 point lead, my g/f was giddy/happy......I told her to calm down because the game wasn't over yet as we all know as ISU fans.

Sadly, I ended up being right. Dejected would be the best way to describe my attitude while walking back to the parking lot.

Ah, I recall you said you went to that game. Didn't you guys have something happen to ya at the game or in the area the day of? I may be thinking of someone else.

You may be thinking of Flag Guy. Think he said they got a flat tire on their van while in Toledo.

Nothing of note really happened to us, other than a few quick taunts by some Toledo students on the way out of the stadium about how we had just lost to their horrible team (they knew they were bad).
