    Watching the NIU game again

After leaving JTS on Thursday I was so so on this team. I thought they did some things good but had things to work on. I still think that but I do feeel better about the team after watching them on TV and comparing them to other teams. A few things that really impress me about this ISU team

    1. The D is fast to the ball
    2. WRs they are fast quick and have good hands
    3. ARob in open space is very fast, if you can give him an opening he is very dangerous and is hard to cover on pass plays
    4. Shontrelle Johnson has quick feet.

    Issues
    1. The D bringing guys down
    2. Run blocking
    3. Errors in the passing game

Re: Watching the NIU game again

i thought we played outstanding. The first half and the 4th quarter get A's in my book.

What worried me the most, was our 3rd quarter adjustments. Did we not find anything that we could adjust to? NIU clearly made better adjustments that we did. We could have put that one out of reach much earlier than the 8 min mark in the 4th. Could have been 31-3 easily. We don't get that offensive pass interference call when arob picks up a first down, and i think we do go in and score.

but overall, i don't think those are mistakes we cant overcome

I was the same way after Thursday. I thought we looked OK to slightly below my expectations. I watched the re-play on Friday night and it totally changed my opinion. During times, ISU flat out dominated NIU. Most of the mistakes I saw were things that can easily be fixed with coaching.

    1.) Tackling
    2.) Penalties
    3.) Turnovers

The biggest problem I saw that really concerns me is punting. The Iowa game always comes down to turnovers and special teams. A blocked punt next week kills any chance of a win.

The one thing that I was really happy with was Klein and Knott. Knott's forced fumble was a thing of beauty and great coaching.

Against Iowa any special team for us is a chance to score for them. A punt could be game over in a hurry.

I don't think we needed to or probably tried to make any adjustments at half. At that time, we were out playing them in every aspect. I do agree that we came out flat (lacking intensity) in the 3rd and took to long to respond to NIU's half time changes. That's the time we should have put the game away instead of letting them back in it.

    4. Shontrelle Johnson has quick feet.

Did he get any carries in the game? If so I don't remember.

Yes, he got 1 screen pass that gained ~9 yds.
I'm not sure if he got anything else, I think he may have dropped one as well.

Anyone know how long it typically takes for them to get the replay up on Clonezone? I would like to watch the game again but I didn't DVR it.

He caught the swing pass and took a knee for a touchback on kickoff return, which was a really smart play for a true freshman in his first game.

He had a pretty good play on a bubble screen . He was able to hide behind his blockers. He seemed to change directions a couple of times while still moving forward.
