    Kings to hire Reggie Theus

Wow...quite the step up from New Mexico State to the NBA. That's quite the risk the Kings are taking. Super sucessful college coaches have tanked in the NBA so maybe they think they will hire a mid-major coach and see what he can do.

$2 million per year. 3 years.

FOX Sports on MSN - NBA - Kings hire Theus as head coach

Many hawk fans wanted him as their next coach so he must be the next coming of Phil Jackson.

Former NBA players with no coaching experience have been quite successful, however. Look at Avery Johnson, Scott Skiles, Doc Rivers, etc.

Only difference is Reggie Theus actually got some coaching experience prior to his first NBA gig.

Didn't New Mexico State have some really good recruit coming in also?

Theus had a good recruiting class comming to NMSU. I think they got a huge recruiting coup when they signed Pope.

if I remember right the Kings are not in the best situation cap wise - and really have no marque players - the could be a tough job to get done, they don't suck enough to get a high draft pick, but don't make the playoffs either.

Reggie turned New Mexico State around in 2 years, he is buddies with the Maalof's (Kings owners) The Maalof brothers own the King's and the Palm's Casino/Hotel in Vegas. The family made their money as Budweiser Distrubtors in New Mexico and all are New Mexico State Grad's.

This is no surprise to any who has followed the New Mexico connection....Reggie can recurit and coach

Well he doesn't need to recruit anymore. And he really doesn't need to coach much either. Good NBA coaches manage talent.
