    Very excited

Next week I get to go to south bend and watch ND v Michigan.

Now I've been an Iowa State fan my entire life, but I know a bit about Notre Dame, South Bend and their general hatred of Michigan, and etc. since I have a friend who is a Design Major that's a HUGE ND football fan.

We're sitting between the band and the student section.

My god I haven't been this excited in a while.

To make this thread worthy, anyone been to South Bend before? I'll be going with a couple friends so I know we'll be tailgating and etc.

I am incredibly jealous of you. I have been a huge ND fan my whole life and have never been able to go to a game. I might finally get the opportunity when they play Western Michigan. I could die happy after viewing a game first hand.

Make sure you arrive early/stay late and walk around the campus. It is an amazing campus and the whole aura of the place is awesome. Enjoy!

    Re: Very excited

South Bend is actually kind of a dump of a town, but the school itself is beautiful. I've been to a game there against USC a few years back & it was pretty cool. I've never liked ND, so it wasn't especially exciting to me, but being a huge College Football fan, it was very cool, to "feel" the history of the program. Definitely arrive early and spend time on campus before the game. Actual tailgating is very poor at ND because parking is so limited. (I'm pretty sure you have to pay to park on City streets near the stadium). The campus atmosphere before the game is awesome, though.

If you have time, check out the college football HOF, which is just a couple miles South of campus in downtown South Bend.

    Re: Very excited

I'd love to see a game there. Ever since I moved to Indianapolis, I've wanted to go. It's only a few hours away, I just haven't found the time (or money?) To make a trip up there yet.

LOL...I've lived & worked at ND/South Bend for 4 years and you hit the nail on the head. It's not exactly a college town like Ames but it is trying to improve.

The HOF is actually leaving for Atlanta next year so see it while it's here!

Definitely agree with this. I had the chance to see them play Michigan State in '07 and it was a great experience. Despite having to witness them going 0-4 for the first time in the history of their program.

You've been an Iowa State fan your whole life, but you going to ND-Mich and missing ISU vs Iowa? Does not compute.

Not a true Cyclone fan in my book. I would NEVER rather watch anyone play over ISU.... never.

I don't like Michigan or ND. In fact, if ISU had a bye week next week, I wouldn't even watch that game.

    Re: Very excited

I hate Notre Dame. Although the only time i'd consider watching a game there would be if they were playing michigan state, and only then it would have to be on a ISU bye week.

    Re: Very excited

Perfect timing on your post! Just last Monday my wife surprised me with tickets to the Notre Dame vs. Purdue game this past weekend. Now I'm not much of a ND fan, but love college football and have always wanted to see a game there. We left Friday, got home last night. I, like you, had never been to a game in South Bend, but have always wanted to go.

Parking is much different from ISU - we ended up parking in a business parking lot for $20 about 8 blocks east of the stadium.

We didn't know much about the campus/ gameday atmosphere so we (wife and I) just wondered around before the game for a few hours. There was a beer garden with a stage, etc on the southwest corner of the big donor lots (southwest of the stadium). We also walked the campus and ended up having the timing perfect - about 2.5 hours before the game, the team/coaches, etc walked through campus. It was pretty cool to see the team walk campus with a crowd of fans lining the sidewalk the entire time. The band also does a pre-game concert type thing near the west end of campus (i don't recall what building) - that started about 2 hours before the game.

Seats - we were just behind the band, next to the student section (by the tunnel where they come out in the north endzone). The rows are a lot closer than Jack Trice and leaving your seat and getting back is somewhat of a challenge depending on where in the row you are at. A few fans next to us had small pairs of binoculars to watch the game on the other side of the field. Might have been nice, but we didn't have any and it was alright.

Ate dinner the night before at a place called Between the Buns (sports bar type)- located 7/8 blocks east of the stadium. Pretty good, seems to be a local favorite. Morning of the game we went to the College Football Hall of Fame. Costs is $12 per person (we had a buy one, get one coupon). Took about 2 hours to walk through. As a college football fan, this was definitely a highlight of the trip. Great trip overall - have fun!

    For I for S forever!

Anything else you would like to enlighten us with? You should sit down sometime and write the rules of what it takes to be considered a TRUE CYCLONE! Give me a break. There is more history and tradition in the ND Michigan game than in Iowa or ISU's entire program history, combined. Missing a Cyclone game is not a cardinal sin and makes you no less of a fan than someone who shows up 7 hours early.
