NIU slow to start once again | Daily Chronicle

Interesting read from a NIU view. I don't remember the facemask in this picture being called??????

There was also a facemask on the AA TD run that wasn't called as well.

Good summary. They only did hang around because of our mistakes.

Pretty much explains it. We made a lot of mistakes last night. I'd like to see what we can do if we got rid of all the silly mental mistakes we made.

Oh, and it wasn't called. I remember seeing that and worrying that his neck was going to be injured.

Me, too. This team has the potential to be really good. We'll need to be with our schedule and all, but we have the potential to measure up week in and week out, without the mistakes.

As for the facemask, it's probably easy to miss, with Sed's head turned backwards like that and all

I wish the faster/taller Sedrick was given some opportunities to outrun/outjump the slower/shorter #5. We could have scored much more, much more quickly.

That was after Sedrick's dropped pass on our first drive before we converted on 3rd and 15 or so. But man, that looks pretty brutal. (Referring to the picture)

    Re: NIU article on game

I believe that facemask infraction occurred early on, maybe on the first or second throw to Sed; at the time, the TV did not offer any close-up shot, but even with the distance camera shot, the play looked suspicious. No wonder Sed dropped the ball: he is lucky he wasn't seriously injured.

    Re: NIU article on game

People were on him about dropping balls.
I think he had nerves having not really been able to play last year.
The first one, he got facemasked, the second interference.
He looked like a completely different guy once he settled in.
I think he'll play a big game next week.

I remember the play well. And just watched it again. He dropped the ball before a hand ever touched him. I like him and all...just saying...that shouldn't be an excuse.

Thanks for the correction, and no, the facemask cannot be the reason he dropped the ball; on the other hand, an infractions occurred. I believe facemask violations should be called, period. Just my feeling because it is a dangerous situation.

That's true, but that still should have been a penalty whether SJ had the ball or not.

That one really ****** me off because the replay showed the umpire standing five yards away looking right at the play, I couldn't believe it wasn't called. However we did get the roughing the passer later so I suppose it evened out.

    Re: NIU article on game

Fair article. You can certainly tell the NIU has some talent on the field, and that they have potential to play much better than they did. But you could also tell that the Cyclones were better overall from a talent standpoint.
