    LB's

WOW is all we can say about their play...

This group showed up very well......

Klein - tackling machine....15 total tackles...he not only replaced Jesse, but he's faster.....

Matt T - solid in the middle, didnt have as many tackles as you'd like, but, i think his stats were a bit off because NIU realized early on that ISU was tough to run against up the middle. Outside or off tackle a different story....

Knott - wowzer....I will say this - i loved the story of this kid...these are the Iowa kids we want...good physical players

Went from Chizik saying we will call you (if other options fall through) Chizik wanted him as a preferred walk on, so did iowa.

Coaching change - Rhoads hired Dec. 20th and besides money who was already leaning our way, Knott was the first Rhoads commit. Rhoads went after him, got him and i said this when we got him signed and i will say it again....

This kid is the second coming of Chad Greenway, and thats a huge compliment...same body shape, same smarts, all around gamer....

I honestly believe that he has a chance to develop into one of ISU's best LB's and a chance to play on sundays.

Awesome game LB's the fan base can rest assured that the hype of having first time starters is overcome with talent and smart play.

I will agree. This season will be tough for them, but they will gain GREAT experience and have a good shot at developing into strong leaders/ players.

I loved their play, I would have to assume that once the first game jitters pass their tackeling will improve. The LB's seemed to be pretty aware during the game, good job from the trio

    Re: LB's

They were great. They missed a few tackles....but I'd rather have them be in position and miss the tackle then just be lost out there. I think they will learn how to wrap up and not arm-tackle....and when they do they could be an amazing LB group.

I'm ecstatic about the prospect of Knott, Klein, and George (I really hope he can get it soon) for the next 2 years.

did anyone else almost cry when Knott hugged coach Rhoads after the interception. That was almost as good as the locker room video.

    Re: LB's

These guys are going to be great, they are for the most part where they need to be. One thing Id like to see them improve on however is penetrating, get off of blocks, and go TO the ball carrier instead of letting the carrier come to them. Lastnight however a lot of the gameplan was likely geared towards outside containment with the speed at QB and RB that NIU possessed, OLBs turn the carrier inside.
LBs can also only be as good as their Dline is, If the Dline is getting run over, the LBs are going to have a very difficult time getting to the ball carrier(obviously).
Loss of Alburtis will sting a bit in B12 play.
I am excited for JG to get a good grasp on the defense, He is going to add another level of athleticism and leadership to the LB corp.

As long as we stay healthy here I don't see inexperience coming into play too much at all, a ton of talent there that is for sure.....

That was classic...almost like a great father/son moment. Knott came running off the field and ran right over to Rhoads almost like "look what I did, Dad" and Rhoads played the part of the ultra proud father. CLASSIC!!

    Re: LB's

they were good, but watching the replay again... knott missed a lot of big tackles as well... head behind the ball carrier several times which leads to arm tackling and misses... but they were all 3 pretty good.

I think it will at times. It did at times last night. It's understandble. I didn't expect them to do what they did last night. I am very happy with that group. The thing is, though, that they will mess up. It certainly seems that they have more potential to make the big play. I have confidence that they will improve every game in terms of reads and mental issues. Physically, they all have what it takes, but you have to expect a mistake here and there. If I am wrong on this I will be a very happy camper.
