ISU guard Ezell picked for U.S. Jones Cup team

    Per the Rag:

    DesMoinesRegister.com

Iowa State guard Heather Ezell has been chosen to play on the United States Jones Cup team, which will play in a tournament in Taiwan on July 11 to 17.

The U.S. will be one of six countries participating in the tournament.

“You always hear about the international game and how different it is and I am excited to actually get to experience it," Ezell said. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that not many people get the chance to do.”

Ezell, a 5-foot 9-inch guard, averaged 8.7 points and 2.8 assists in her first two seasons at Iowa State.

The team is sponsored by Athletes in Action. Those interested in contributing to the team's tour can make checks out to Athletes in Action or Campus Crusade for ****** and send donations to:

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

So how long until there is a petition to prevent her from playing??

After all, this team is sponsored by Athletes in Action and the Campus Crusade for ******.

This is probably only interesting to me, geography nerd that I am, but I find it very odd that an ISU athletics press release uses the Beijing-friendly term for referring to the capital city of Taiwan. (Quick review for anyone who needs it: China says Taiwan is a Chinese province (of sorts) on Chinese land and under Chinese rule. Taipei says otherwise; asserting that they are an autonomous state and a free, separate country. It's a very sticky political situation.) I wonder what- if any- motivation is behind using one phrase and not another?

Glad I read about this today. I think it will be a great opportunity for Ezell to show off her Cyclone spirit to others in the world. After all, we have a dominant mascot! She will be an outstanding rep for our university and team, and I can't wait to hear how it goes for her.

Great work Heather! You've been a great part of the ISU community and this is a cool thing to do!
