Wish Sims was playing this game

It sounds like NLU will be doing a lot of running in a power formation. Sims is very good at run support.

He will be sorely missed. He is our best "sticker" tackler. He stops runners in their shoes.

I see two positives from this. He is building up ferocity for his return and the replacement is getting to prove himself to be a worthy successor. Win-Win.

You are dead on but if there is any game he would miss, I'm glad its this one (or UNI). NIU doesn't have a passing game and I think Sandvig will fill in nicely.

I was just thinking the same thing. I like Zac Sandvig though and think he will be able to do enough good things to get us by until Sims is back for Iowa.

Re: Wish Sims was playing this game

I am terrified of our run support. Hopefully the LB's are able to fill gaps appropriately. I am worried a power O team like NIU could just march down the field with 3 yd, 4 yd, 4yd runs. I hope our D-Line can take up some space.

The replacement is a senior, Zac Sandvig. I'd rather be without Sims for a power running team than for a spread team. But it doesn't really matter. He's out Thursday. A wish is worthless unless you just rubbed a lamp.

Re: Wish Sims was playing this game

I am not as worried about that as I was before camp, after hearing all of the good things about Dutch, BJ, and McDonough. My biggest worry right now is about Taufou. Is he tall enough in the middle to see the play develop and find where the RB is going? If we stay in the Nickle, Benton is good enough in run support to help out Klein and Knott.

Crap, I completely forgot he wasn't playing. Is anyone else kind of nervous about tomorrow? I really don't want to go to work the next day after a loss.

I am definitely nervous about tomorrow. They beat Purdue last year and hung with Wisconsin. This is a well coached team.

I think we'll be okay. I think it could be closer than any of us would like, but I think all the players are excited and ready to play so I think we'll be fine.

Plus, now Sims will have more energy for the Iowa game.

Lets run with two FS's tomorrow, then base on who should start opposite Sims based on that game.

I think this is crazy scary heading into this game without our best player. Hopefully the offense looks nothing like last year and we can roll.
