ISU vs. NIU on Xbox 360

so, CR has a thread on this and I thought I would start one here. I'm sure many of you do the same as I did - play the game beforehand to see what your result is and how it compares to the actual game. Here is my recap from last night:

Played ISU vs. NIU on my Xbox360 last night. ISU led 10-0 at half, and went on to a 17-0 final score. NIU threatened once late in the 3rd quarter - a long pass was taken to the Cyclone 3 yard line to set up first and goal. After stuffing the run twice, the Cyclone D stood up and stripped the ball on the third down play - recovering at the 2 yard line - very reminiscient of 2009 Cyclone D.

Arnaud threw for 212 yards and 1 TD, and Robinson had 85 yards on 16 carries. The one big negative was that I lost Lenz for 4 weeks on a leg injury.

2 Touchdowns were scored by a Robinson 12 yard run, and a Darius Reynolds 40-yard'ish TD catch. 42 yard FG into a breeze by Mahoney capped the scoring.

The only other note is that I was docked sportsmanship points for trying to run it up late in the fourth - instead of kicking a 52 yard FG with 1:31 left, I went for it on 4th and 9 to seal it and run the clock out. Apparently that is not cool with the NCAA11 code writers.

    Let's hear some other stories!

Re: ISU vs. NIU on Xbox 360

When I started my dynasty, I remember winning this game by a score of 27-7, or something of the like. I think they scored on a screen pass. Oddly enough, I also lost Josh Lenz for a significant amount of time during this game.

(On an unrelated note, I'm none to pleased with this "sportsmanship" business, as if I have a 4th and short toward the end of the game, you but your *** I'm going for it to keep the clock running, especially if I'm on their side of the 50-yard line. It IS kind of awesome to see that Iowa State fans have the highest sportsmanship total on the Season Showdown, however, and it's not even close.)

a new addition to this years game assigns points for different categories during the game. you get skill points, loyalty points, w/l points, and sportsmanship points. there are others, but I can't remember what they are. The dumb thing about the sportsmanship points is that you get rewarded every time you kick on 4th down - regardless of where you are at in the game. so, if you punt on 4th and 30 from your own 10, you get sportsmanship points - even though nobody in their right mind would ever go for it at that time. Anyway, you pretty much get dinged when you go for it on 4th as well. The thing that burned me in my situation is that I got dinged for going for it AND 'attempting to run it up' - a pretty big dock to the sportsmanship standing. Pretty much BS in my opinion, as it was a strategic call - not an attempt to 'run it up'. It's not like I was launching end-zone shots from the 35 with 30 seconds left, while up by 40.

It's not new to this year's game--it was on last year's game as well.

Ah, ha. So running it up on the AI opponent is morally wrong to the programmers? Who really needs to discourage that?

The 360 isn't really intuitive enough to analyze the situations in a way that would make this work out. This doesn't sound like their best development.

I think you are right. however, i did not spend much time playing NCAA10, as the game itself sucked. NCAA11 is awesome by comparison - they really upgraded the franchise this year IMO.

I really don't like the recruiting on this year's game. You have so much less control. It's almost like playing a slot machine, honestly. I'd rather see it more like the way recruiting has been.

hahaha - no. I did play a full season on Varsity settings and had a 12-1 season, with a win in the Fiesta bowl. I upped this one to All American.

to the poster discussing the recruiting. I have found that if you change the recruiting settings to All American, it gives you more influence over the process.

Agreed. Watch the simulated game and see how it turns out. Playing it yourself will be different based on user skill level. I could easily see a talented video game player winning this one 50-0. The simulation should be more interesting.

Sounds like the Zombies are tryting to teach sportsmanship girlified to the masses. Go ahead and run up the score like the OU coach does all the time.

How do you think it's better? I wasn't planning on getting it (I have 2010), but if it really is improved, I might consider it...
