Re: Detailed OWH Article on Nebraska to Big 10

While some schools complained about the league's unequal distribution of revenue from network TV contracts, Nebraska wasn't among them. It joined Texas as a strong proponent of giving big-time football schools — those most appealing to the networks — a bigger slice of the pie.
While many have blamed Texas and its plans to start its own Longhorn TV network as the reason a Big 12 network never got off the ground, Nebraska wasn't on board with a conference network, either. Nebraska's support was conditional on the high-profile schools taking a larger cut of that revenue, too — a condition some schools strongly opposed.
So, while in the Big 12, NU didn't want equal conference revenue sharing and didn't support a conference TV network. So where did NU go???? To a conference that has equal revenue sharing and a TV network.

I'm hoping Osborne did his homework before jumping to the Big Ten. He realizes that schools like Purdue, Northwestern and Indiana are going to get as big a slice of the pie as the mighty Huskers....right?

Re: Detailed OWH Article on Nebraska to Big 10

Nebraska and Big Ten proponents from Iowa are trying to push all the blame on Texas. The bottom line is the Big Ten decided to cherry pick and Nebraska took the paycheck. Nebraska could have stood up to Texas but instead of taking a leadership role they bailed.

Make no mistake Texas isn't innocent and the conference lacked a good leader. i believe that its the Big Ten and their network thats changing the landscape of college football. In my opinion for the worse...

The Big 12 had a chance to be the first to anounce that they were going to make a television network. The comish at the time proposed it to the Big 12 schools and they turned it down. The comish then finished up the the academic/athletic year and bailed to the Big 10 to start up their network. If I remember correctly, the Big 12 voted on it in 2007. The comish name is Weinberg or something like that. Anyway, he is now with the Pac 10 trying to get their network running, he was also on the plane trying to get the Texas schools to the Pac 10.

After reading that, I'm convinced the Big 10 and Pac 10 will go to 16 teams. Its obvious that the Big 10 and Pac 10 want to change the landscape and were working on this together. Both conferences get the same idea at the exact same time? Are you freaking kidding me?

One thing is for sure, this is not over. The Pac 10 will continue to pursue the Texas schools and discourse among Big 12 members will continue. Eventually the conference will fall apart with a "All for one" mentality.

Pretty short-sighted by the power brokers of the Big XII. You can't expect all schools to share in the cost of setting up a network and then divide the pie unevenly.

If the Big XII had made the move first they would have been the conference in control as opposed to the one trying to hold themselves together.

Aren't you just a bundle of joy. The constant pessimism about the Big12 and people making bold claims about it's soon to be demise is getting really old. If you have such a negative outlook on things, do the rest of us a favor and keep it to yourself because it's definitely not wanted.

How did Nebraska vote when a big 12 network was proposed to the conference?

I'm a college football fan and if conferences expand to 16 teams then what's special about college football is lost. In my opinion, that isn't a bright future for iowa state football.

Did you read the article? The feeling has already started among members. Nebby's and Texas' presidents both met and agreed to look out for themselves first. A&M has continued that with the SEC. Mizzou is obviously only looking out for themselves with all of their stupid posturing.

I don't understand how people that have worked and played together for 16 years do not feel any sort of kinship. You would NEVER see a team from the Pac 10, Big 10, or SEC do this kind of crap. They all believe in the team, that the sum is greater than the parts. Not so in this ****** conference, we would rather eat each other.

I don't know, the article that I read a couple months ago didn't say. If I remember, the article explained why the Big 12 was having problems and a lot of it had to do with the fact that the Big 12 and it's peers kinda put themselves in this situation.
