Condolences: Former UNI coach Jim Berry has passed away

I just received word that former Loras, UNI and Waterloo Columbus coach Jim Berry has passed away. He had apparently been battling cancer.

As an official, I met Mr. Berry many times on the court at Waterloo Columbus and he was always fun to work with. One of the guys on my crew had played for Jim at Loras. One time he called a charge that went against Columbus and Jim said,"How would you know what a charge looks like? You never drew a single one when you played for me!"

He was a good man and my thoughts and prayers will be with his family, friends and loved ones.

Heard about this last night, but didn't know that he'd coached at Loras. I'm a Loras alum, so I hope the school honors him in some form.

    Rest in peace, coach.
