Important question for ISU students regarding tickets

I had a conversation with somebody from Iowa State last night who told me that season ticket sales are drastically down for students compared to a year ago. With enrollment up and last season's bowl victory, this makes no sense to me at all.

I want to help give Iowa State some feedback as to why this is happening?

I assume that most of you who are on this site buy tickets but have you heard others talk? Are students really not going to games or do they find other ways in? Does anybody have any insight on this?

A lot of answers here CW. There's a whole laundry list of possible reasons, a lot of which deal with cost/transferability.

Only allowing it to be put on your UBILL for older students by july 10th doesn't help things...

The whole having to scan your id for tickets thing is the biggest complaint i've been hearing, also the lessening for advertising the tickets to the freshman during orientation and move-in days, or at least getting the infromation out there...

They may want to check the few cheaper options (ie. Hillside) to see if students have bought them and plan on sitting in the student section.

Re: Important question for ISU students regarding tickets

The student section was usually full last year, so my bet is that they're finding other ways than student season tickets.

We've seen quite a few posting as much.

All things considered, it sounds like the University has A) made it much more difficult than necessary to get student tickets and B) really dropped the ball in getting the word out about where, when and how. Students should be able to hit some button in AccessPlus that allows them to throw them on the U-Bill. Hell, send 'em an email that has a link they can click to do exactly that.

Re: Important question for ISU students regarding tickets

A lot of kids are buying hill tickets becuase they are cheaper, then just sneaking into the student section. And I hate to admit this but more people than I would have ever imagined seem to be planning on driving to Iowa City on gamedays this year, which really ticks me off.

Rhoads sent out a video in an e-mail just the other day encouraging students to buy tickets. Maybe that will help a little and we will see an increase in the number of tickets sold.

Re: Important question for ISU students regarding tickets

It seemed like at least 2/3 of the marching band used to buy tickets for recent graduates, so that's like 200 tickets right there that went bye-bye with the ID scan system. I'd imagine that might be a common practice elsewhere in the university where you've got people studying abroad or on internship that can't use tickets but buy them for recent grads.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. Iowa sold out their season, didn't have any problem selling their student tickets, which aren't less expensive than ours. You can tell me about our poor past holding back overall ticket sales, but that shouldn't mean anything to students. What are student tickets, $100? These should be sold out with a waiting list, we have 28,000 students at our school, this is nothing but embarrasing, and there is no excuse that can change that.

Where in the hell are all these closet Hawk fans coming from? You'd see a few when I was in school, but not that many, and we're talking like 3-4 years ago. It's like they've multiplied.

I think I knew one guy my whole tenure at ISU who was a Hawk fan, and he ended up going to more games in Ames than IC, just because he knew more people here.

$270 for football and basketball. $125 or $145 for football. 28,000 students means nothing. It's about demographics. Foreigners are less likely to buy. Women are less likely to buy. Record enrollment is from a record number of foreigners.

This fact bothers me. Student tickets were always the cheapest ticket around - and IMO that should still be the case, hillsides or not.

I get that the AD doesn't want non-students getting student tickets, nor should they.

But I still think that there needs to be an element of big time $$$ college sports that still makes the event about the student, and about the only way to do that is to make tickets cheap

Long winded way of saying student tix need to be cheaper than hillsides. Couldn't care less about the gripes about the e-system.

They are all over, I would bet I see 4 or so Hawk t-shirts everyday, even saw a "BEAT STATE" shirt. If it wasn't a girl wearing it, I'm pretty sure I would have decked them.
