    Good news for Royce White?

Article from Charley Walters in St. Paul Pioneer Press:

Royce says waiver still in process but "looking good", and he's added 10 lbs. in 2 weeks of strength workouts.

"Royce White, the former Mr. Basketball Minnesota from Hopkins High School, is at Iowa State, where classes started last week. White, who transferred from the Gophers, is still waiting to hear whether the NCAA will approve his waiver request for eligibility this season.
"But it's looking good," he said from Ames, Iowa.
The 6-foot-8 White weighed 238 pounds when he left for Iowa State two weeks ago but is up to 248 pounds after working with a strength coach.
"I'm in a good situation here," he said. "Coach (Fred) Hoiberg has been working with me on my shot."
White, who started a record label for which he wrote and produced songs while at Minnesota, will major in music at Iowa State. He has removed himself from the record firm while in school."

I wonder what makes him think "it's looking good"? Does he have any sort of contact with the NCAA during the process to gauge how it's going?

At 6'8, 248 seems pretty heavy unless he is solid muscle. Anybody know what Fizer weighed when he was here?

Re: Good news for Royce White?

If we were a big program like UNC, Duke, or Kansas I'd be a lot more optimistic about this but we're ISU and our track record with the NCAA on this stuff is not good. Pretty much prepared to take our lumps this season and hopefully everyone keeps their nose clean and we have a breakout 2011 season.

I wouldn't get too excited based on Charley Walters being the source. He's typically all over the map with his "a little birdie told me" projections.

Maybe that is actually what he really was but he was listed anywhere from 6-7 to 6-9 I believe.

Gilstrap was confident he would get another year as well!

Re: Good news for Royce White?

NBA profile had him listed as 6-8: NBA.com: Marcus Fizer Bio and Marcus Fizer Stats, News, Photos - New Orleans Hornets - ESPN
    Here's another at 6-9: Marcus Fizer NBA & ABA Statistics | Basketball-Reference.com

I always remembered him listed at 6-8 and somewhere in the 250-260 range most of the time. Dude was ripped, man amongst boys his junior year!

Seems like a pretty healthy/strong weight for someone that tall to me.

    Ummm... what?

Future looks cloudy for Iowa State men
Senior forward Marquis Gilstrap won't be back, though, after the NCAA denied his appeal for another season.

6-6 3/4 early in the morning, just a couple of inches too short to get blocked by the NBA 7 footers.
