    Elite Camp Update??

Does anyone have a report from the Elite Camp? Who showed up? Who played well? Are we on the verge of signing anyone?

There is a nice acticle in the Sunday Ames Trib by Chris Williams, but is not currently included in the online version. It is a long article, he must get paid by the word. I will hit the highlights.

Brackins is as good as advertised.
    Offensively awesome ,defense needs work.

    2010 class could be impressive.
Harrison Barnes has more upside than any other player at the camp and shot the 3 better than expected.
DeAndray Buckley was one of the more aggressive gaurds at the camp taking the ball to the hoop, did make some bad decisons but is still only 15 years old. He is receiving interest from MSU, Michigan, Ill and ISU.

    2008 Big Man Alert
There is not much left in the class 2008. The two bigs that stood out were Ian Markolf and Colton Iverson. Neither is top 150 but they do have their strengths, Markoff size and Iverson more athletic. Will be surprized if ISU does not land one of these two.

    Bold Prediction
Diante Garrent will start at PG. His overall game may be the best guard at ISU.

    That Can't be Legal
Sean Haluska is a steal, best 3 point shooter at the camp, look for penty of minutes next year. Clayton Vette another steal looked strong and has some moves around the hoop.

    Other Notes
Marcus Brister looks like a fullback.
Charles Boozer is the hardest worker and is very scrappy and is a better shooter than advertized but needs work on ball handling.

I have never been this stoked about an upcoming bball season. Especially considering football hasn't started yet and I'm already wanting bball.

Don't get too excited. Remember they are freshman. Remember when Fizer came in, everyone was so excited, but that first 1/2 year was pretty rough, then he really started clicking. It was not till year 2 that he really started to shine.

Boo!! Thanks for raining on our basketball parade.

This year should be fun, but 2008 could be quite entertaining.
Can we get this silly football season over with so we can move on to basketball?

One thing to remember about when Fizer came in...and a big part of the reason people were so excited on top of getting Fizer, was that everyone thought C.J. Bruhton and Gerald Henderson were also coming...and if they would've made it, I think Fizer's freshmen and sophomore season's would have turned out a whole lot different than they did.

Usually, I don't do this, but it was Gerrod Henderson. Gerald played for the Celtics in the 80's, and his son just finished his freshman year at Duke (the guy that busted Hansboro's face).

At least we are getting into the season we have SOMETHING to talk about.

That's alright...wasn't quite sure if it was spelled Bruhton either, just know our backcourt would have been a whole lot different with Bruhton and Henderson, as opposed to whoever else it was Fizer's freshmen year...I wanna say Lee Love and Rodney Hampton.

Guys...I don't know why my column isn't online yet but I will post the whole thing tonight. I would do it now but I don't have it on this computer. Check back later tonight. It's been a great camp though and it's been fun watching all of the awesome athletes.

    Re: Elite Camp Update??

Did we give out any scholarship offers that we know of yet? I like the fact that Markolf is 7'0" 260, but that was the size of Seth Gorney back in the day. You said Iverson was more athletic than he was, but is he Gorney level unathletic? I'd rather have a 6'9" guy that can move his feet than a 7'0" rumbler.

I really hope we get Barnes and he younger Buckley. That would be a lot of fun.

something POSITIVE, and I mean super positive, I can honestly see a big XII championship in the near future if these guys all stick around and develop even partly as much as expected.

My kids played sports at AHS, when the sporting event was on Saturday the acticles would appear in the Sunday trib, but the online version would usually come out on Tuesday.

Love the super optimism, keep it up. Just remember that Kansas and Texas are bigtime attractions to top level recruits. A & M with Turgeon could be a real pain to reckon with. Anderson at Missouri recruited all of Nolan Richardson's studs at Arkansas. You get the idea, it will be a load. But I think that we are certainly on the right track to have an upper level program in college basketball.
