    Album Sales

Album Sales Hit Record Lows. Again. : Planet Money : NPR

The month of August like, basically, every month for the past 10 years has not been kind to the music industry.
Between August 8th and 14th, only 4.95 million albums were sold, the lowest weekly level since Neilsen Soundscan starting tracking sales in 1991. This past week, sales were up, but just barely: just over 5 million albums were sold, an increase of only 2 percent from the record low.

Who buys CD's anymore? I will just get the 2 good songs on Itunes for $2.

    Re: Album Sales

That explains why Iron Maiden's new CD was number four on the charts. I would have guessed Guitar Hero because they are definitely not mainstream.

    Re: Album Sales

I still buy a CD from time to time if it's by an artist I really like and it's under $10. Otherwise I'll buy the digital copy on Amazon.

    Re: Album Sales

I generally buy albums on itunes anymore.

I do tend to buy whole albums, because I think, at least artists with a high level of artistic vision/integrity treat the album format as an art form in itself. The collection of songs, and the sequencing can often express a particular mood, idea, feeling, etc. I love a great album, and most of the bands that I like, IMO, put out enough good songs on each album that I might as well buy the whole thing.

    Re: Album Sales

I just bought a whole box of albums last week from a co-worker. There were at least 6 Gene Pitney alone.

Seriously. There was an original 1964 Pressing of Hard Day's Night on UA still with the shrink wrap on it (not sealed). Same deal with a Beatles '65.

This lady (his aunt) took really good care of her records and when she moved she gave them to him.

I was jacked! He's bringing 45's next week.

No matter what, I could NEVER cheer for Dirt and Urine.

    Haven't bought an CD/album since 1999.

iTunes all the way baby, it's better than Paul Rhodes riding a unicorn chasing a jackalope.
