    Favorite Dog Breed

The "Beagle" thread got me thinking about dogs.

What is your favorite breed of dog?

    My preferences are

    Border Collie
    Australian Cattle Dog/Heeler
    Cross Breeds

I have competed in flyball with one of the top flyball teams so I have a bias towards dogs that are easy to train, and that are quick.

I will put my German Shorthair Pointer up against any breed. The most intelligent and fastest learning dog anywhere.

    Re: Favorite Dog Breed

... I own a 12 year old Malamute (an Alaskan sled dog) best dog I've ever owned, even though he looks like a wolf, he is the gentlest, kindest dog I've ever seen.... "Increadibly Great" with children as welll... the "mute" of Malamute means he does'nt bark either since they don't have vocal chords..

.... Geeeezz , I'm some NYC dude tellin' someother dude in Alaska about Malamutes ? ... sheds like a mother in the summer... that's why we call him "Tumbleweeds" ... and in the winter time you are not just going for a walk; You Are Goin' For The Sleigh-Ride Of Your Life !!!!... Maybe I'll let Paul Shirley walk him across campus some January :-) :-) :-)

Golden Doodle is smart as a mix of poodle amd golden retriever. They casn be reddish yellow or whiteish. I like beta mode better than alpha mode.

    Re: Favorite Dog Breed

I think dog intelligence is a bit hard to measure. Some say intelligence = trainability. Well that favors the "working" dogs. Hounds are going to perform poorly in trainability.

    Thanks for the link.

That's not a bad-looking dog! Plus, you've gotta like the fact that you can get them in medium & large sizes. Maybe a dog to consider for the future...
