Giggity....Well since Xm == Sirius soon, as long as we are on sat radio, I am happy. I hate listening to static on AM when listening to the away games.

So I assume that means for the time being that they will no longer be on Sirius?

That sucks big time because they won't be merging for awhile...

Nope, the XM deal was between Texas, Okie St, and the Big 12 Championship Game. Everything else remains as was.

Do I need to change to Sirius? Didn't know they carried our games.
Also, how long before they merge...year or more?

I'd be stunned if they ever merged due to anti-trust issues, same reason why DirecTV and Dish Network weren't allowed to merge several years ago.

The problem is, dish and Dtv are making $$. XM and sirius are both going to go under unless they can join forces. I think the fcc will allow this or there will be no competition. Plus it is not like one is buying the other, they are joining forces to try and stay afloat.

I am pretty sure they will merge or they will both go out of business. Most likely the Department of Justice will put a price cap on them as a condition of the approval.

I'm not sure that they'll survive even if they merge, but they have to try it. If the terrestrial radio people had their act together on HD radio, I think there's a good chance that both XM and Sirius would be under by now...

Sometlhing doesn't add up here, from Tim Griffin's Big 12 notes column in today's SA newspaper:

    MySA.com: Big 12

    • The entire Big 12 has signed up with XM satellite radio, providing wall-to-wall play-by-play coverage of every football and men’s basketball game.
However, the Big 12's website shows only Texas and Okie St hooking up with XM:

Not true. I just bought a new car with XM and I had Sirius in my old car so I called to cancel that subscription this week. Well I mention the whole merger thing and the guy on the phone tells me that they will still stay separate and offer different programming they'll just be owned by the same company or something like that. The FCC would never allow them to do a full merge because they are the only 2 competitors in their market making it a monopoly.

I loved my Sirius programming, especially the NFL and I guess I still get it through Dish Network but XM does have MLB and I've found some channels I like on it too.

This is true. That is what they told me when I just bought my new XM player too.

Well one of us got fed a line of BS then. I'd be shocked if they are allowed to completely combine services and not have competing lineups. That would be a complete monopoly and it's been tried before with satalite TV (see below.) XM has this FAQ that somewhat confirms that: XM Customer Promise I've also heard things that you'll be able to add stuff from both side more a la carte. I wouldn't count on these 2 companies being just 1 combined service from all the things I have seen about the hurdles they still have to jump over to pull that off.

CNN money had this to say back when the merger was announced:

"Given the government's history of opposing monopolies in all forms, NAB would be shocked if federal regulators permitted a merger of XM and Sirius," the trade group said in a statement. "It bears mentioning that regulators summarily rejected a similar monopoly merger of the nation's only two satellite television companies - DirecTV and DISH Network - just a few years back."
