    Iowa State Athletics Five-Year Review

Cyclones.com just put out this PDF.

    http://www.cyclones.com//pdf8/708273...B_OEM_ID=10700

It is a great overview of where we were and where we are now. The leadership and "tone at the top" for the whole Athletics Department is in a much, much different place than it was in 2005. This is a very good read.

Aside from that, I gleaned a few things from their planned facility improvements towards the end. These are the three that stuck out:

    FOOTBALL STADIUM VIDEOBOARD &

    SOUND SYSTEM––
    Replace the Jack Trice Stadium
video scoreboard and sound system to improve fan
experience and prepare the stadium for the eventual
bowling in of the south end zone.

    FOOTBALL TEAM COMPLEX––

    Construct
a new building, which would connect directly to the
Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility, and would house the
    football staff of

fi ces, team locker and meeting rooms and
player development (sports medicine, weight room, etc.)
areas. This complex is needed to meet the ever-growing
space requirements of the football team, provide a
direct connection to the indoor facility during winter
months and allow us to remain nationally competitive
    in recruiting.

    SOUTH END ZONE PROJECT––

    Enclose
the south end of the football stadium to dramatically
improve the game-day atmosphere, connect the east
and west side concourses, increase seating capacity
to approximately 60,000 seats and enhance football
    recruiting.

From what I can it looks like any Jack Trice expansion plans have been broken down and now the upgraded video and sound might be done separately from the south end zone. It pretty much states that when saying they want to improve it for the eventual south end zone expansion.

Also, the football complex seems like it is new, or at least new to the public. Anyone have any insight on that?

this sounds awesome! can you imagine the Thursday night game with 60K?

    that's adding 17,000 seats, so 2 levels?

was there any type of timeline or just the outline of the overall plan?

It actually is only adding about 5,000 seats to the stadium. The powers that be now require JTS to also include the grass area tickets as well, so the official capacity right now is 55,000 people.

I have heard rumors of the Football office facility but this is the first from the athletic department directly.

    It's a matter of semantics.

For two levels, you're adding 13K actual "seats" while losing 5K actual "seats" (due to construction) and 4K "spaces." (the hillsides)

That would be a really decent sized building to link up to Bergstrom. Unless they do something silly and have a building then a tunnel connecting to Bergstrom. Eh...

My concern is the elimination of that parking lot between Jacobson and Bergstrom.

I attended a talk by someone who's name is escaping me now (might have been Mike Green, Asst Director of Athletics Communication), and he talked about this a bit. Essentially the football team would like to have more space dedicated to their usage. Basically similar to what the basketball team has in the Sukup Practice Facility, except for the football team.

the verbiage in the sound system part is dissappointing. Seperating that project from the SE bowling, and then alluding to the 'eventual' bowling does not sound promising.

It essentially sounds like prioritizing and I agree with it. If we cannot get the millions to get the end zone done but have some millions to do the scoreboard and sound then we might as well enhance our gameday experience.

Same goes for the new building. From the sounds of this, and if the order is any indication, the end zone is a ways off.

The sound system and video board are so pathetic in their current state that they can't wait years to get it fixed. I was hoping they would finally separate the issues and fix the sound system and video board soon.

Looks to me like the order -- if there is one -- is based on project cost. The most expensive thing is last. The first two are underway.
