Am I the only one a bit suprised that a non-profit organization like this has $600,000 sitting around in the bank?

It's pretty common to have something sitting around to cover salaries, emergencies, mortgages (for the church) and what not. It's not feasible to exist on a hand-to-mouth basis on donations.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

A diocese is also a large organization. I just looked it up and this one has 82 parishes within the organization, as well as 3 hospitals and 18 schools.

It's just not one church though, it's a whole diocese worth. So to me, it's not surprising. I wouldn't be surprised if they take in that much in a couple weeks worth of donations.

Don't forget about Catholic Charities and sister parishes that a lot of churches have in other parts of the world.

Re: Cyber-thieves Steal $600,000 from Des Moines Diocese

what those guys all said. In a non-profit you tend not to have massive amounts of revenue rolling in on a regular basis, and you're probably not putting all the money into investments like a corporation would because you aren't profit driven. Having $600K for a whole diocese to cover various expenses doesn't surprise me.

"Blamo"! The new CF approved swear word.
