    "Debbie Downer" Moment

It hit me today that in one week's time, I will have missed a home game at Jack Trice Stadium for the first time in 5 years.

I graduated, got a job, and moved to Texas. Anyone with a similar experience have any tips on how to cope with such pain?

On a positive note, I think I will be able to attend one (or both) of the OU/TX road games and should have a pretty good chance at making an ISU home game sometime this fall (probably during Thanksgiving week).

Stuck in Texas too. Bought the sports pack for my cable (last year) to make myself feel better + lots of beer.

    Re: "Debbie Downer" Moment

I have tried to road trip to at least one game per year. Worked out OK - I was in the Panhandle of Texas for 3.5 years, so I could get to OU/OSU/TT pretty easily. Now in Houston, I hit up Aggieland last year (wish we would have played a bit tougher in that one...). Beer does help.

I haven't missed a home football game since the fall of 2002.

I'm in Indiana. I remember my first year after moving away... It was a Thursday game and I got hammered while watching the game that night and showed up as hung over as ever at work... it made the pain a little worse but at the same time, more bearable.

I'll also be missing my first game in years. The last home game that I missed was the Missouri game in 2002. I'll miss them all this year, most likely.

Yeah, consider yourself lucky you're still in Big 12 country. I'm in North Carolina (ACC-land) and in 2 weeks will be moving to Boston (ACC? Big East?....Patriots).

You'll spend a little more on your cable, and you'll drink more beer. And, if you're anything like me, your CF time will probably triple.

    Re: "Debbie Downer" Moment

Besides the fact that the Des moines metro area is an awesome place to live, I love that I'm only a half hour away from Ames. For those two reasons, it would be really hard for me to leave this area. A lot of people that leave, end up moving back.

I was in your same shoes, last year. I made every home game from 2004-2008. Missed a few games last year, after moving to Chicago. I drove back for all of them except 2. This year I will try to make it back for at least 2 or 3. Although, it's easier for me, since I don't like all the way in Texas.

And to answer your tips about coping with the pain of missing games: I went to the Alumni Gamewatches as much as possible just to be around other ISU fans. But, the pain and sadness never go away from missing the ISU games and tailgating. Come next Thursday, I will be depressed that I can't be there.
One thing that you will learn, is that you will never take a Cyclone sporting event for granted ever again. Back in school I always went to the games like it was part of my daily life, and now that I can't make it back for as many, I always go all out and take in the atmosphere as much as possible.

My sister got married on the day of the Oklahoma game that we almost won 3 seasons ago.

That was my first home game miss in 19 years.

    Re: "Debbie Downer" Moment

Moved out of Ames in 1991 - in 2004 I got a job where I could live anywhere, so we moved back to Ames in 2005. We left the title office after closing on the house and went DIRECTLY to the ticket office to buy season tickets.

Road games, cable, and beer are the only things that help ease the pain. CF will help also.
