Nail Salon Charges More For Overweight Customers - News Story - WSB Atlanta

“I said, Ma’am, you can’t charge me $5 more. That’s discrimination because of my weight,” said Fonville.
Salon manager Kim Tran told Philips that the surcharge was due to costly repairs of broken chairs by overweight customers. She said the chairs have a weight capacity of 200 pounds and cost $2,500 to fix.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

“The word has to get out there that these people are discriminating against us because of our weight. I mean come on, we’re in America. You can’t do that,” said Fonville."

Yeah, because we are all overweight? In that case, do I get a skinny guy discount?

    Re: weight charge

I think WalMart should charge double that for all large people that use the motorized scooters just to be using them. I'm on crutches going into Super Walmart in Ames and there is a larger woman and her two young sons just looking at me as I'm trying to sit down. She is just sitting on a scooter talking away on her cell phone. All of the sudden she gets up and walks out to the parking lot with her kids. I should have gone postal on her.

Would she prefer the salon institute a, "You break it, you bought it" policy?

I'm surprised the minimum is that low, given the current state of america's collective belly.

    Re: weight charge

Often it's not just the weight, it's how overweight people sit down. If you watch, many of them back up to a seat and simply crash down on it.

I forgot the guy's name, but the former photographer who did the research on the elite athlete publications maintains that he could spot a world class athlete simply by how they sat in a chair. They know how to utilize their core body strength so they almost always sit down in a controlled manner as opposed to crashing down like the less coordinated do.

I would argue that overweight people are discriminating against a healthy diet and excersize.

Then I should get a $4 credit for trying to understand their 'Engrish'.

    Re: weight charge

Once again we realize that 1/3 Americans are now obese but on Cyclone Fanatic it's 1/1000. I think the internet makes people skinny.

As far as this weight charge, I'm fine with it. They will lose money over it but that's their right.

    Re: weight charge

I think they would have been better off charging everyone $2 more and saying it is for increased costs.
