Parking outside of the Tailgater lots

Is there a good place to park around campustown or a shuttle service with a park and ride within Ames to the stadium on gameday for the home opener. Was hoping to park away from the lots to hopefully get out a little quicker.

East of the lots off of South 4th you can sometimes find residential streets right past the bridge to park on. It's not a terrible walk but the streets get pretty crowded with cars the closer it gets to game time.

I would say directly west of the stadium in the residential area there. You want to be facing away from the stadium so that you can get to a main road and out of there.

Check out Lots 61A and 61B (Towers, west of the stadium). There will probably be open spaces, and I believe it's open parking after 5:30pm and on weekends. You can probably even park there mid-afternoon that Thursday and not risk a ticket. And even if you do get a ticket, I think they still have the three freebies for visitors.

From there, you can easily jump on Mortensen and head west to South Dakota to pick up Hwy 30.

This is risky. The line of cars on Mortensen backs up from State Street all the way to the towers. Its better if you can head down mortensen to University.

All of this depends on where you are trying to get after the game as well.

This. I've been in a lot of REALLY long waits trying to go West on Mortensen toward west towne pub and such.. Most of the congestion is due to the stop sign on State Street. There is usually some sort of traffic control once you get down toward University so I would imagine that might be a little quicker to get out of dodge

Heck, why be in such a rush. You can kick back and enjoy a victory beverage after the game, unlike the folks to the east where they have to close shop once the game ends (night games). This way traffic thins out and you can be on your way.

There should be space at the end of Gateway Hills Park Dr. by the Carroll Marty disc golf course. That would allow you to quickly turn right onto Mortensen and head east where they will have traffic control.
