    Beasley better than Durant?

Coach Martin has this to say about Beasley:

"I've said this before and I'll continue to say it because its what I believe..I think Mike should have a bigger impact than what Kevin Durant had at Texas this year. I don't mean to put pressure on him...Its the truth. He's a better player than Kevin Durant."

I think that says something about their staff in place right now, when's the last time you have heard someone set the expectations of one of their players so high?

    Re: Beasley better than Durant?

There is a belief, and it certainly appears to be true from the outside, that Martin was hired to keep the recruiting class together. And that KState gave a kneejerk reaction to Huggins doing them wrong, and Martin is totally unqualified to be the head coach at a Division 1 school. Throw in some past character issues, and you have a guy sitting on a seat that is pretty warm, before he coaches a game.

I guess he feels enough pressure, that he needs to make brash statements to get the fans fired up.

Beasley is a stud, and he will be dominant this year. Now can he dominate the way Durant did, that remains to be seen.

    Re: Beasley better than Durant?

Durant was a once in a decade player, and I'm not sure that gives him enough credit. He has tremendous talent and the ability to put it onto the court. Beasley could be great, and dominant, but I would bet a large amount of money that he doesn't measure up to Durant, statistically or otherwise.

    Re: Beasley better than Durant?

To be fair, Rick Barnes said he thought Durant was the best player in the country at the Big 12 media day.

That being said, to say Beasley is hands down better than the NPOY and a 1st team All American is ridiculous. I mean Durant only averaged 26 and 11, so Beasley should do better than that right? Plus, KSU doesn't have any guards as good as UT's were last season, so they should have no problem getting him the ball in good spots right? I mean it's an asinine statement.

    Re: Beasley better than Durant?

Beasley will be good. To quote Dan Macarny "no doubt about it". This Martin guy is way out of his league. He is a high school basketball coach. He normally has better players than everyone else and that is why his teams won in high school. Now he has KU with more talent and every other coach that will outcoach him. KSU will be on probation within 5 years.

    Re: Beasley better than Durant?

I will believe when I see. I think there may be one difference...Durant was a quality kid...I have not heard the same about this kid going to K-State,

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Wayne Morgan was good at that part of it. He said Taggart was one of the best offensive players in the B12. Uhhh, yeah.

Insert Wayne Morgan for Martin, ISU for KState, and Eustachy for Huggins and it sounds identical to our past situation. It didn't work out in the long term for us and I don't expect it will for them either. But you never know...

Asinine indeed. And a lot has to do with the surrounding cast Durant had vs. what Beasley will have. Big difference. Even if Beasley is a better player - his stats won't show it because he's not on a team as good as Texas was last season.

    Re: Beasley better than Durant?

Speaking of Kevan Durant or should I say KiD, he could not bench 185 in the workouts, the only one of 60 potential pros. His attittude to the tryouts appears too loose and does not have to go all out. It will be interesting if he is drafted in top 2. Me thinks Kevan is reading too many of his own press clippings although in the end he can outdo many players. Right now, he looks like a Tayson Prince.
