The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

    Re: ISU ESPN mailbag

I found the following quote from Ubben very interesting:
"The biggest thing for Iowa State is it has to win the games it should win, like Kansas and Colorado."

Most national talking heads and bloggers Ive seen have KU and CU ahead of us. Yet Ubben calls those "should-wins" for ISU. I totally agree with him. I just find it very interesting that an ESPN blogger feels that way in spite of what virtually everyone else thinks.

DU: Well, as much as coaches and fans like to talk about "resiliency," I wouldn't worry about any losses shaking a team. This isn't peewee football. Anyone who made it to the Division I level isn't going to curl up into the fetal position because they lost a few games. Teams keep fighting week to week and the times when players fold are grossly outweighed by the times they keep fighting.
Apparently he isn't too familiar with the way the 2002 season ended, because that was a textbook case of curling up into the fetal position due to losing a few games...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

those questions were probably better suited to be answered by a doctor, not a sports blogger

R u telling me you don't see these as should-wins? Both of these teams have had huge off-season departures, both injuries and transfers, I see these as have-to-wins to get to the next level...

Columnists never like it when you flood them with questions. You have a much better shot at getting one really well thought out question answered.

All in all, I thought he did a nice job with it. It seemed like he actually had a good handle on ISU's situation, I didn' see much to complain about.

Please re-read my post with special attention to the "I totally agree with him" part.

Why does everyone think CU is such a great team? Last I checked, they went 3-9 last year. The teams they beat? Kansas, Wyoming and A&M. The wins were by 4, 24 and one point respectively. No reason for them to win against ISU this year. Yes they're returning most of their offense, but lets be realistic, it is an offense that went 3-9 last year.
