    My thoughts on Dale Jr...

If you didn't know this, I'm a HUGE racing nut (don't hold that against me).

I just got done watchign Jr's presser....I am sick to my stomach.

This is HORRIBLE for the sport. Take a look at what's happening right now in the NBA. The Spurs have been dominant for years now. The league's finals ratings are the worst of all-time. Why? Not becasue the Spurs are a bad team...they're great...it's because 1- they have no personality and 2- their competition has NO CHANCE to knock them off.

That's what's going to happen in NASCAR now. Jimmy Johnson has about as much personality as Al Gore. Jeff Gordan all of the sudden is this family man who is about impossible to hate (I am the exception, I still can't stand the pretty boy) and now the sports most popular driver Jr., is teaming up with them.

If NASCAR wants ratings, it should go like this. Either A) Jr. joins up with his two good buddies (Stewart and Hamlin) at Gibbs racing so it will be a battle of the two super teams in the sport. The Gibbs crew vs. the Hendrix crew. That's good TV. If we can get them to take each other out every now and then that would be awesome. Or B) Jr. takes over his dad's old car and rivals Gordan. That makes perfect sense.

Now we have this. A big mess that nobody wants to watch. I get what Jr. is doing. In fact, it's probalby the right move for HIM. But it's a terrible move for the sport.

God I wish I was a NASCAR.COM columnist right now. haha.

Have a good day. Not that you all care, but I had to blow off some steam.

Re: My thoughts on Dale Jr...

I was thinking this earlier and wondered - so now that it's all official and stuff - I wonder how weird the rest of '07 will be.

In all other sports, players don't sign with another team for the next year during the current one. It's always at the end of the season.

So here Dale is, going to HMS in '08, yet has to race for DEI for the rest of this season. Won't that be a bit...weird?

Will DEI still work diligently to get him wins? Who employs Dale's pit crew...DEI or Dale?

Re: My thoughts on Dale Jr...

Yes they will still try and win for him. It makes all the sense in the world for them to want to win. 1) they get money if DEI wins and 2) they still have sponsers/employees/finances to worry about.

Keep in mind that as of now, it's only Dale Jr. who is leaving. The team is still employeed by DEI. They all want to keep their jobs, so winning races will only help them in the future.

Plus, Jr. still has a legit shot to make the chase and win a championship. Throwing in the towel right now would make no sense for anyone.

NASCAR is funny. They claim they want to make the Nextel series more competitive and give the smaller teams a chance, so they implement the COT, make Roush cut back to four teams, etc. But then when it comes to the COT, NASCAR is all loosey-goosey about the testing rules, so that the richer owners who can afford secondary testing teams can bend the rules and test the COT on non-sanctioned tracks using non-sanctioned tires.

At least Jack Roush had the guts to speak out about the testing hypocrisy last week...as a reward, NASCAR will probably force him to cut another team...

Re: My thoughts on Dale Jr...

Junior couldnt go to Gibbs racing - they will not be affiliated with sponsorship of an alcohol product. That leaves Roush, Childress and Hendrick. Everything he's indicated, he wants to finish his career with RCR and running the 3 car, but, he wants to establish his own legacy first. Roush - sorry he's affiliated with Ford - he's out. So that left Hendrick, and judging by how they've dominated lately, not a bad move. And to add fuel to the fire with Kyle having the best Busch Family trait, they think they're the best on the face of the earth, and he began to shop himself to other teams as a matter of strong arming one of the most powerful men in nascar it didnt work. Unfortunately, Busch will get picked up by someone (maybe DEI) all i can hope for is his lack of success.

    Go Junior!!!!!

I have a prediction for the rest of the year 22.......They will all drive as fast as they can, and the good ol boy that can turn left the fastest will win.

Do you think that these guys have a hard time taking right turns when they are driving on the street??? Do they have to have something special built into their cars to assist with that foreign concept???

Re: My thoughts on Dale Jr...

If Gibbs Racing wouldn't waive their no-booze clause for the most popular driver this sport has ever seen, then they are a bunch of morons. I know about the clause, but sometimes you have to bend the rules. Dale Jr. is not an ordinary driver, he is his own brand.

What about these two tracks. Turning left only might be a problem.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Re: My thoughts on Dale Jr...

Maybe this isn't best for NASCAR but it itsn't NASCAR's duty to dictate which owner should employ which driver. They should stay out of it.

A few years w/ more COT testing and with more Toyoto testing and things will level out.

I think we will have to wait and see how dominating the team will be. Don't get me wrong it looks like they will be even more of a force to be reckoned with, but you just never know. Needless to say I am already getting pumped for the 08 season!

Re: My thoughts on Dale Jr...

I too have a prediction. Every NASCAR thread for the rest of the year will have someone in it that feels the need to make a comment about left turns and/or Rednecks. This person will most likely feel like they have just "made a funny" much like children who "make a poopy" and laugh, it is not funny, but it will happen over and over again.

LOL don't try too hard, sometimes you just have to let the uniformed simple minded NASCAR hatters vent a bit
Or they could just stop going to threads that talked about NASCAR - just a simple idea

They will have to call the race on the first lap due to the massive pileup at the first curve that goes right.
